This is just the latest trend of shitpost, I mean we had beans, we had Beef Stroganoff, and now people are posting Jemes, each time people say they are fed up with it after a couple days. This too shall pass.

Because new people are hopping on the bandwagon late so instead of the shit lasting a couple of days it becomes over a week of shit

Yep it’s the low-effort AI generated stuff that’s the problem. Some people just… aren’t funny, sorry 😅

Same thing happens in the communities for AI images. Some user will make a picture of a clever idea, but then other users copy the idea and beat the dead horse.

I don’t get it. They literally have the tools to make images of any idea, and they choose to use it to make somebody else’s idea over and over.

Sadly. I will ever understand the mindset of taking joy from bandwagoning. “yay, I’m doing something completely and utterly unoriginal for the 10000th time, wooo!”

                I’d fucking die of boredom.

Depends - sometimes you see a concept that you think you can improve on. Or maybe you read about their workflow how they did the image, learn something new and want to add your own spin. I don’t think, that’s a problem per se, as art is often iterating and innovating and that this is the root of creativity.

The problem is more when everyone does it and the whole community gets flooded with the same image concepts/jokes. In this case, the AI communities may get hit even worse in this regard, as it’s very easy to generate images and there’s less skill needed than if you had to draw/photoshop/… the whole meme all by yourself, which means it’s easier to enter the dead-horse-beating.

Also, most new Reddit refugees at this point (and I feel like there’s been a minor surge lately because of all the IPO crap) probably haven’t internalized that there’s no system-wide karma here, and karma-whoring is entirely pointless in the context of the fediverse.

I was going to write this in one of the many many boring posts, but didn’t want to make it more popular. I understand trend and too much time on their hands but deploying AI to spam same thing like this just gets boring after a few examples. Move on

    I… don’t care…?

Such is the nature of the internet. It’ll run itself out soon and become established lore. Beans and beef stroganoff went through that progression too.

When half your feed becomes nothing but trousers and beans and planes, it gets really fatiguing after the umpteenth day of it in a row. It was amusing for a bit, but people have taken that ball too far for my own personal enjoyment.

US political “memes” at a time when the campaign for the next elections there is already informally going, are especially “special” - “this guy is nice”, “this guy is mean”, “vote for our guy” messaging is not at all Satire, it’s Propaganda even when in wannabe-meme form.

Ehh, smaller community, so a little bit slower for trends to fade. I’m ok with it though; I don’t expect nonstop-fresh content here and I like that. People are able to post without bot-mods rejecting every submission… makes people feel included. So you kinda get a slower trend-fade, as people come-up with ideas. I get your point, but no reason to be crass about it. Try and lift each other up and what-not

And that’s absolutely fine. You’re allowed to not enjoy stuff. Lecturing others for enjoying stuff together without hurting anyone, on the other hand, is just petty and authoritarian fun policing in my opinion, though 🤷

Whoa, where’d you dig up that gigantic strawman??

If you check my history, you’ll find that I’m very much in favor of common sense regulation where needed and the only people I call fascists are actual fascists like Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Others posting a meme you don’t like anymore isn’t destroying Lemmy. Please stop being an overdramatic wet blanket and just let people enjoy their jemes until they too get tired of them and move on to the next thing.

No no, they’re awesome. Every one a masterpiece of modern comedic ingenuity. I mean, picking a random noun, then typing “randomnoun but it’s jeans” into a shitty AI image generator, then doing it again a dozen times? Fucking genius.

Maybe I’m just old and grumpy, but this reminds me of Reddit’s obsession with rage comics - except those were higher effort, incredibly. Maybe we can go back to the stroganoff? How about something with dead babies next? Bring the terrible Gërman Fïsh Mëmë back? Knock-knock jokes? Maybe people literally stepping on rakes over and over, as seeing the 700th jouch meme only feels like it?
