been using MX linux the past little while, it uses xfce - it’s not awful, but wayland looks more promising. might have to find a distro that I like that uses it

i was poking around last night trying to figure it out myself - was trying to get a fork of a mainframe emulator working by compiling the code from github but eventually ran into some weird issues and wrote the whole thing off as a fun thought experiment.

maybe I’ll try again next week

mint is surprisingly gaming friendly. have yet to run into an issue with it.

i’m about halfway converted - I use windows as my main rig, but I have an hp 705 g4 mini using mint also - slowly transitioning to it as I learn more about using linux (tested steam on it a few weeks ago, seems to function). will eventually transition my daily driver to that when win10 reaches eol - in around 2 years or so. with that being said, I will still have at least one sff pc that will run win10 forever as I will need that for a specific use case (low profile dedicated voip platform).

eventually I plan to move entirely to low watt sbc’s like raspberry pi’s, but that’s more of a 5+ year plan.

eh, i dunno. the reason Apple didnt die years ago was due to Microsoft funding back in the late 90s, and they had a linux distro for a while too (or was it unix? I forget). diversifying your interests as a company is one way to grow market share, so steam would probably still exist.

valve’s not for sale though, so… eh
