81·5 hours agoWhen the AI bubble pops we’ll all be too broke to buy any PC anything.
The Buffett Index, America’s total stock valuation vs. GDP, is at 200%. It was around 130% in 1929, 2000 and 2007. Guess what? Chicken butts. (is what we’ll all be eating)

3·6 hours agoLooks fine by me. Clicked the cookie link, done.
Funny thing, I spazzed out and clicked on my Putty link after accepting cookies. Putty pops over the website, for a split second I was like, “Oh what fresh hell is this?!”

That would be a sweet dash screen. Make it show your distance to GPS target down to the 100th of a mile or km so you can see it move quickly.

Technology@lemmy.world•U.S. Tech Layoffs Hit Two-Decade High in OctoberEnglish
7·9 hours agoShould I give up on finding a tech job? Surely my resume won’t stack against all these laid of people. I mean, it’s not bad, and I’ve scored great jobs before it was as stacked as it is today. Been unemployed for over a year and a half, haven’t looked too much.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Why not just move to a gated communityEnglish
3·9 hours agoSpent the first half of my life in Tulsa. If the complex or neighborhood isn’t gated, then at least everyone has fences. Assumed it was like that everywhere.
Move to Chicago and not only are gated areas really rare, nobody has fences! Weird.
Now I’m in the South and nothing is gated, fences maybe, maybe not. We don’t even have curbs down here, forget sidewalks, not even in the bougie suburb and nice neighborhoods.
As a cable guy in Tulsa, we all knew how to get into any gated area. We knew loads of codes and some where predictable, MMYY, 1125 this month. Also, if you have ladders on top of your truck and wear a tool belt, you become invisible.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Does anyone know what's inside this building?English
33·1 day agoMight that not be a case of the building having a monster concentration of ferrous metal?
EDIT: Apparently lemmy doesn’t believe concentrations of iron affects magnets. Go on.
The lack of basic science around here annoys me. Had thought this crowd was smarter than FB Boomers.
I’m a lefty gun nut and secure storage is my only idea that will help and get past the courts. Won’t make a huge dent in overall gun deaths, but shit like this is inexcusable. Parents deserve prison time for these events. And I say that as a parent to two young ones who could find myself in front of a jury if I fuck up. Gun safety does not make allowances for “oops”.
Now I’m really lost. As I understand it, kids can’t have personal lockers anymore. So where does a 6-yo hide a gun? And then get to it later? From what I’ve seen with my stepson, and now my own little kids, they’re marched around like prisoners, watched every second. Can you tell me more?

Our floor plan + regulations made for a stupid setup. All three bedrooms and hallway require an alarm. All 4 are within 8’ of each other.
And there isn’t one in the kitchen!
