Do you have any possibility to log in as a different user or even create a new user to log in as? I wonder of some plasma config file could be corrupted.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does asking yourself “Where would I have put that?” work for you?
4·7 hours agoSometimes. Sometimes it at last narrows it down. But when I put something down somewhere really random or stupid it doesn’t help at all, but then not much helps in those cases.

2·7 hours agoNice! You’ve inspired me to pick up a pork shoulder next chance I get and try that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I've found the problem in my espresso machine. Should I fix the part, or buy a new one?
3·17 hours agoWood glue is not very watery proof, and doesn’t more stand up to heat very well. Even the more waterproof kinds like titebond 3 are not really fully waterproof.

1·17 hours agoTo fill something with crazy glue it helps to use something as a filler that the glue will soak into. Baking soda is commonly used for this, it results in a very hard material.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those who have purchased ibis paint, how does it differ from regular ibis paint, and where is the subscription required?
2·2 days agoI prefer to leave my ibises unfinished, the paint tends to obscure the texture of their feathers.

2·2 days agoI somehow imagine normal lizard-persons as less horrible than Peter Theil. Less sweaty for starters.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most meaningful “personal” gift you’ve received — and would a custom song feel sweet or cringe?
1·3 days agoI don’t think you can generalize like that. Like any gift, some people will love it, some will hate it.
I find people fall into 2 violently different camps around the idea of someone giving them homemade gifts like a craft item or food.
It seems to me, something like a song or performance adds even greater complications around matters of taste, intimacy, and the challenge of seeing your own art the same way others do.
The more personal a gift, the more important it is that you deeply know the recipient and how they will take it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most meaningful “personal” gift you’ve received — and would a custom song feel sweet or cringe?
1·3 days agoI guarantee, before long there will be a service to handle the whole gift process entirely. Full out a form somewhat like described, list of gift occasions, price ranges, and it will remember and order gifts for people every year with out you having to be involved at all. (Vomits into mouth a little.) Actually surely this exists already.
I used to have a market that was in between a subway ride from work and the rest of the walk home. I found picking up just a handful of things I needed, however often, was not a chore for me the way a large trip to can be. If I didn’t work a later schedule and had to deal with max crowds and lines that might not be the case.
Right now I live about half a mile from the nearest market, so we tend to do it as a car trip, less often, for more stuff at a time. Sometimes I will do it on foot. Not terrible but given the choice, I’d prefer the other situation.
This is also impacted by having a ‘we’ situation. If you don’t have to consider anyone by oneself it is easier to never plan.
That’s like having a huge, well-stocked pantry and fridge 50 metres away. OP doesn’t even need to have their own fridge.
I would say washing them. Maybe a simple rinse with water would do it, but might depend on your water hardness.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does smelling your food while you cook it make it taste bland?
27·7 days agoI have never experienced this as a problem. However one does learn to compensate for differences between the eating experience and the tasting-while-cooking experience.
For example, when it comes to heat (chili heat), I’m cautious, knowing that what is tolerable for a taste, may not be tolerable for a whole meal since the heat tends to build as you eat. I also adjust for my audience’s taste, for example if I think they can take less heat then I can, or like things less salty.

2·8 days agoI think you’ll find that what people believe depends an awful lot on their position and what is convenient.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[Laundry question] Anyone with hard water get waxy patches on their clean shirts?
3·9 days agoIs it possible heat or moisture from you back is melting /dissolving something out of the been of the chair? Try draping a towel over the back of the chair while using it for a while to see if it intercepts this substance… Or maybe a sheet of plastic.
It can only be destroyed by throwing it into the heart of Mount Doom. Or other volcano.

I’m imagining freezing a lot of it, and pulling some out for sandwiches, tacos, etc for months. I’ve done a whole rotisserie shoulder for a party a couple of times, but your caution is a good reminder, it needs to fit in my slow cooker…
