Out of curuosity, what is the programming equivalent of Japanese?
There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, “What the hell is water?”
— David Foster Wallace, This is Water
You should check out /r/movies on Reddit, they’re seething over the very existence of this film.
Isn’t the whole point of (real) IMAX movies to be captured on analog IMAX cameras and projected on analog film?
There are less than 100 IMAX 15/70 analog projectors in the world right now. The majority of IMAX releases are now digital. Plenty of movies that were never filmed for IMAX to begin with are released in IMAX. You still get a bigger image and slightly louder sound, even if it doesn’t make artistic sense.
And hey, if it means getting more 2D animation in theaters, I’m all for it.

Wasn’t there recently a controvetsy about Ventoy having binary blobs? Or did that get resolved?
As a kid, I was obsessed with the Captain Underpants book series, so you could imagine my excitement when Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie came out 7 years ago(!). “Dog Man” takes place in the Captain Underpants universe (it’s one of the comics that George and Harold create), though as I’ve gotten older I haven’t been able to keep up with the Dog Man books.
Long story short, if this is anything like Captain Underpants, I’ll be first in line to see this.
So what do you think? Did we dodge a bullet or miss an opportunity?
(I have no idea what big penny means.)
It’s a reference to how expensive it will be to repair the trucks.
Krusty: So he’s proactive, huh?
Network Executive Lady: Oh, God, yes. We’re talking about a totally outrageous paradigm.
Writer: Excuse me, but “proactive” and “paradigm”? Aren’t these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I’m accusing you of anything like that… [pause] …I’m fired, aren’t I?
Roger Meyers, Jr.: Oh, yes. [gets up to leave] The rest of you writers start thinking up a name for this funky dog - I don’t know, something along the lines of, say, “Poochie”, only more proactive!
Krusty: Yeah!
— The Simpsons S08E14 “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show”
Okay, thanks!
Who is the original artist?
For this movie, no it isn’t. Joker (2019) opened at $96 million, and critical response was stellar. It also had a budget of only $55 million, so it didn’t need much to make a profit.
This one has a budget of $200 million, so it will need to make at least $500 million at the box office to break even. But compared to the first movie, the reviews aren’t looking so good.
