I believe I first encountered this before college, and it took actually professional dev experience to really understand it.

There are steels that premium Chinese brands can make that are objectively better that nobody else has produced yet and they are VERY expensive.

Put it on an inclined track, and then drive uphill to store energy, and go downhill to release the energy.

We’ve reached a point where the US doesn’t even know how to manufacture some of the stuff China can.

We already apply distortion correction based on lens profiles. Probably all cell phone lenses do this. They just aren’t corrected based on individual phones.
Ah I see. Do non phone specific generic lenses exist? They all seem pretty specialized to me.
That means we could get better processing by applying this analysis in reverse. Would also reduce this type of fingerprinting.
Why would a generic lens be any better? These distortions are part of the lens design and manufacturing. Arguably, a lower quality lens would be easier to identify.
CookieOfFortune@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Yes, I did spend time on this5·23 days agoI mean… you’d get better results for large data sets by just using a known compression algorithm. This is only viable for situations where you only have a small amount of data, enough computation to run this conditional, but not enough computation to run compression/decompression.
