Patrick isn’t letting fireworks or anything else get in the way of getting his feelings across to Yumiella this time. That was a really satisfying climax to the relationship they have built up over the season. I wasn’t quite sure what was happening with the screen dimming like that at first, but it was all a setup for the rock paper scissors game and them basically ignoring the outcome because they both wanted the same thing.
Something that was cut for time in the anime were additional interactions with the boy that has dark hair, named Phil in the source. In the parts that were cut, he ends up becoming good friends with Ryu and they often play outside the city walls with the other boys. The city guards are only terrified for their lives at the beginning of this process, but they warm up to Ryu’s cuteness as well.
Finale coming next episode as we are literally traveling to fight the demon king right now. There was a bit of foreshadowing already about what is going to happen, but I am so excited to see the final episode.
I have had a blast with this series and it has done the source justice in a lot of ways even if it did make a number of changes/omissions. The main thing I was worried about not coming across with this adaptation is the humor that is contained within Yumiella’s inner monologue since that is what is often cut when being adapted to anime. However, they did a great job with casting Yumiella and preserving a lot of her inner dialogue so that the humor is preserved. It also has the added benefit that there isn’t a lot of dynamic animation while she is monologuing, so it can save some money.
