I haven’t seen this one, but the review definitely makes me interested. I am a total sucker for a well-done romance. Back when the show came out (2007) that was absolutely not the case, so I had skipped it. Might have to go back and check it out.
BTW, I see you crossposted a bunch of different communities. This would also fit right in on !anime@ani.social, so feel free to add that one to your list.
This community used to be much more active, but there was a large exodus of the most active users after some far-reaching admin interventions (like this one) that saw a mod get removed from this community and the episode discussion bot unable to post here any longer. A lot of the activity has moved to a different instance/community. The reason people aren’t linking it directly is because admins have previously removed any comments/posts that link to it (including over two months of the pinned weekly discussion threads). It shows up on lemmy community browsers like lemmy-explorer though.
I’ll repost what I said in another thread. Like OP, I am glad that this is getting made. It is not something you typically see in anime/manga and a diversity of options in media is a great thing.
I had read a portion of the manga a while back. I didn’t think this manga provided anything novel enough to keep my interest, but for a certain segment of the population, the art was exactly what they are looking for. So, if you are a big fan of the teaser visual, expect basically an anime with fan service about women that look like that.
This series is like the anti-How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift. It revolves around an elf that finds human food, specifically french fries, so delicious that she just can’t stop eating them and, despite the male lead’s best efforts, is unable to lose weight. There is a veritable smorgasbord of female characters built similarly to the elf from the visual in this series in what is likely the highest average BMI harem in manga. I call it a harem, but in what I read at least, there aren’t really any romance elements, more just friendship, slice of life, and nutritional counseling.
I haven’t watched either of those shows, and I can’t really say that it is the genre I usually consume, but wanted to mention that you might get more answers on either !anime@ani.social or !anime@lemmy.ml.
As for thrillers I have seen or heard good things about, perhaps Death Note (if you haven’t seen it yet)? I haven’t seen this one, but I have heard good things about Psycho-Pass as well which seems to have some similar themes based on the synopses.
Not sure if I should dive into My Happy Marriage or not. From the synopsis, it almost sounds like a courtly love kind of thing, but I have seen some good reviews, so I might give it a shot if it keeps being well received. It could fill the Raeliana-sized hole left after last season.
Having more fun with this show than I thought I would. It knows that the premise is dumb, so it doesn’t waste time explaining things, just pulls out some blessing ex machina and moves on. I can see it growing stale as the season goes, but so far it’s fine for what it wants to be.
Also, poor Lammis. They made her carry our protagonist rather than stick him on the wagon.
The thread wasn’t made for this one because there weren’t any comments on the episode 3 thread. Then, a user requested that rikka make a thread for this episode via pm today. I don’t know why they haven’t then commented in the thread here, but that is why it was just posted today rather than when it aired.
