I had a conversation with a friend from the US (I’m not, he’s from Like the New England area idk where exactly), he’s very conservatist, like the typical “I own a guy gun and I like it” type of person (lucky that he doesn’t base his entire personality on it), and even he said that both options sucked ass and very much envied that most of the European countries have a sensible system of voting that has more than two parties, since when one sucks go to the another, and the possibility of all candidates being absolutely trash is basically zero when you got like 7+ parties, compared to the two in the US

If y’all had a functioning government and something that resembles capitalism (a few leading members while everyone else gets fucked around, sounds similar? cough Meta, Google, Microsoft cough and others) and had some competition it would go all way different than it’s currently going

This, MFers will have the most top spec computer and worry about bloat while I install random shit for fun on my 320gb had drive that’s also my boot drive on my core 2 duo computer with 3 gigs of ram that struggles to run firefox and thunar at the same time (also cinnamon is the best running on my computer from my testing, xfce is laggy af and I’m not even going to mention kde, bspwm or any other since the, either lag beyond usability (KDE) or just straight up crash my computer into tty when i try to launch them (bspwm), one massive note is that I’m using software rendering since the GPU on the core 2 duo is struggling with even drawing the boot screen)

Literally have probably a ton of overlap software from installing the desktop environments and other random (well not very random, stuff I used on windows before) software that I don’t bother googling the deleting commands since apt installed them all as snaps because I never noticed in my first three months of use, fuck you Ubuntu, Xubuntu and all other derivatives, this shit makes me not want to use Ubuntu ever again (not like i can, my pc is fucked and no other drive is bootable, i can’t even boot an install usb)

Yeah, it’s pretty much favoured towards Facebook messages and/or WhatsApp, but I’d gladly use SMS over those two (or hell even RCS, not possible with some stupid people in my class, which bought an iPhone in the last two years, not to mention we had (and technically still have) a recession, which means that buying an iPhone is the most fucking stupid thing you could)

Hot take, in places like eastern/central Europe it’s better to use SMS over RCS or iMessage, I don’t care that I can’t pin an emoji to a message or a texting indicator is not there, I want it delivered and not with the overpriced mobile data goddamnit

Now just finish off iMessage and we’re done (I’m talking about categorising it as a gatekeeper, since what I’ve recently noticed is the amount of people who are close to me (classmates, old friends) that switched to apple is growing rapidly, and I’m now waiting for a day someone will be confused as to why I can’t use iMessage (mark my words at least here in Czechia iPhone users are going to be a problem, I hope that the situation doesn’t end up like in the US)

I got a phone that’s 2/3s of the price, started on android 13, got 14 recently, yeah it’s the same but the advantage of it being newer means I have a bigger battery, 90hz display, and more that you just don’t get with a 4-5 year old phone

Well considering here in Czechia (the country that’s 90% “middle of fucking nowhere”) it’s scary that a third of active phones are iPhones, how does anyone except the people living in big cities afford this shit? People around me are getting iPhones, but it’s always like 4-5 year old 11s and 12s, literally the shittiest investment you can do

Also can’t wait in a couple of years when this number will probably go up and iMessage will take over any other messaging app

It definitely is just a brand thing and the fact they maybe bought a shitty budget phone and then went straight for the iPhone 11s/12s and thought “this is so good and android sucks”, because that’s just the fact the price is 4 times higher compared to the old phone

For example for the same price you can get a pixel 7 or an iPhone 12 (or an Samsung A54, S20 FE or a flip 3, which aren’t that great considering they are on sale currently, and I’m comparing this price to the normal prices of the other two), imo the pixel is a lot better value than the iPhone in that case

Also the retailer in question is czc.cz, probably the best retailer in Czechia for tech because others just focus on appliances or aren’t as good (but tbh they do quite suck since they just for some reason have crazy prices or don’t have some things other retailers here and around the world have)

Too bad when more and more people buy Apple phones for some reason, well at least where I live (which is the poorer part of central Europe), I have no idea how people can spend this kind of money for a 4 or 5 year phone, when you can buy something more capable for the same money and you will actually know it will get supported with updates for more than 2 years

Can’t wait for this to be more widespread in the future to the point iMessage will be the messaging standard

I was about to say that most apps should check the NT number but then I remembered that until XP it wasn’t common to run a NT system, but then I remembered NT 4 existed basically in the same timeframe as 95 did, and even if the argument went to “it’s a 9x application”, shouldn’t these OSes at least have some sort of build number or different identifier systems? Because as I said NT systems were around, so they would probably need a check for that
