That makes sense. Thanks. I’ll have a look at that list.

I don’t want to run Openwrt or Tomato precisely because they include non-free firmware blobs in order to support the ac/ax WiFi chipsets, and I don’t want to spend the time and effort figuring out how to remove those when the developers of libreCMC have already done that.
I do not want non-free firmware, such as for the ac/ax WiFi, installed on the device.

basically any other router
And what would make a particular model the exception to this?
I have a laptop that I use at the desk next to where I will put the router, and any network-attached storage will also be right there next to the router, so I have no need for WiFi. It’s fine if the WiFi could work of course, but I wouldn’t use it, and I imagine that many routers would be 100% compatible with libreCMC if not for the WiFi requiring non-free firmware. What I want to know is which routers these are that don’t require any non-free firmware for any of the hardware other than the WLAN.
No need, and it’s just easier to secure that way.
I think that violence can be adequately defined as “the instigation of aggression/harm against peaceful beings.” Hierarchy is not strictly required for this.
If only I had a tummy like that. And could fly. Would I want a cloaca though? I’m not sure…
You’re welcome! To make a bootable USB drive with dd
, the command would be sudo dd if=/path/to/installer.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=1M && sync
where the sdX
is your actual USB drive.
!simpleliving@lemm.ee has moved to !simpleliving@slrpnk.net
Compatibility with Libreboot/Canoeboot seems to be one of the main advantages of certain Thinkpad models, so it might be something to check out. :)
(For creating a bootable USB drive from a .iso
file, can you not simply use the dd
command?)
I’ve not heard of that. Does Fedora have its own coreboot distro, or is it something else?
Do you flash Libreboot or Canoeboot?
Amazon Restore is one that I’ll be watching from now on!
slrpnk.net already has its own XMPP chat option where one’s Lemmy username (e.g. user@slrpnk.net) is one’s XMPP address, and I imagine that other instances could do something similar if they wanted. XMPP is federated, so it doesn’t require any Lemmy-side coding for the federation aspect. For instance-wide chat (visible to all users of the instance), an implementation in XMPP would probably be easier as well, perhaps using some form of the group chat functionality. What does your proposal offer that cannot be done using XMPP?
Sourcehut also seems promising. There can be both.
Two years… If I waited that long, it would be a disaster! Glad it works for you though!
Too much fruit is never really too much! Plant your own, grow your own, harvest your own, and share…
While that sounds like an interesting project, I’m not trying to invest a lot of time and effort into this. The grass won’t stop growing back while I figure it out.
