The 5$ to 100$ increase is just inflation and increased productivity values. No one cares that wages didn’t follow that trend.
Also: for as long as there are enough people willing to pay the 100$, this will not change.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Somehow *this* is what's going to convince me to distro hop.
10·2 months agoSimply because nix is a functional programing language, not just a data representation.

4·2 months agoThis is an example how to define plymouth with your own logo derivation. Isn’t this the most beautiful?
boot = { plymouth = { enable = true; theme = "breeze"; logo = pkgs.stdenv.mkDerivation { name = "out.png"; dontUnpack = true; src = pkgs.fetchurl { url = "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NixOS/nixos-artwork/refs/heads/master/logo/nix-snowflake-rainbow.svg"; sha256 = "sha256-gMeJgiSSA5hFwtW3njZQAd4OHji6kbRCJKVoN6zsRbY="; }; nativeBuildInputs = with pkgs; [imagemagick]; buildPhase = '' magick -background none -size 200x200 $src nix-snowflake-rainbow.png ''; installPhase = '' install -Dm0644 nix-snowflake-rainbow.png $out ''; }; };

25·2 months agoHow do you even compete with a snowflake made of lambdas? NixOS could be your final distro.
Many tech-savvy people just haven’t made the switch to Linux - often out of convenience rather than capability. Focusing on broader adoption first could make it easier to introduce Linux to less technical users later.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Between Forgejo, Gitea, Gitlab etc., which do you prefer and why?
3·3 months agoForgejo as private instance, mirror important stuff to Codeberg. This way you can also restrict access to your private instance while have your code publicly available on Codeberg.
Looks like a great collection but seems abandoned as PRs are piling up since 10 months.

Main problem will be getting the binary blobs needed for your device as it requires a rooted device or a trusted source.

Ok, it seems there is little doubt that EU chat control will be implemented. The question then becomes: How can individuals opt out of this? What existing technical solutions are already available, and what needs to be newly developed?
