  • They had many options, could do Xbox 4 after 360, that would have been easiest, but maybe they didn’t want people asking why they skipped 3.

They could also do 720, then 1000, then 2000, and so on. Would still be a bit confusing when compared to 1, 2, 3, 4 but you would still know that largest number is the latest.

After Xbox One, they could go Xbox Two, but maybe they felt it has same connotations as PS3 vs Xbox2.

What I am really curious about is, what will they name the next Xbox? It also makes me feel for them. Just because they came a generation late, they have to spend don’t know much resources every generation just to come up with a name, whereas PS can just increase the number (and no, we aren’t going to talk about Nintendo in this 😀 )

  • Played FTL near to it’s release, and Into the Breach when it ended up on mobile / Netflix. Baba is You is still on my wishlist though.

Complex strategy game might be an interesting category. Will check out a few. Any recommendations that I should check first? I used to play Age of Empires before, so going to get AoE IV soon, but don’t know much 4X games (except maybe some Civilizations and Age of Wonders 2).

Also played Half-Life a while ago, haven’t played 2 though. Thanks for the reminder!

  • Well, I am generally a fan of RPGs but I play pretty much any kind of game. Most of the AAA games end up on consoles, so have played most of them (or have them on wishlist). Played both God of War (all except Ragnarok, which is on my wishlist) and Control on PS. And Guardians of the Galaxy is on my wishlist.

Oh, not a big fan of MOBAs or any PvP game. Same with very old or retro game. Don’t have a nostalgia for 8-bit games. Don’t mind 16bit era that much though. Also don’t like horror.

  • Can I ask for recommendations here?

I mainly play on PS and Switch, and have a long list of games that I want to play, so am fully covered there, but recently updated my laptop, and this one has a nice Nvidia card in it, so was thinking about catching up on the PC only games I missed.

I am currently playing Trails in the Sky series, and plan to get Age of Empires and other Xbox / MS games like Halo, Gears of Wars, Fable etc.

Any other PC-only, must-play recommendations from last 10-15 years?

  • A bit off topic, but I have been using Arch for over a decade now, and it has been pretty stable for me. My only issue in last few years were if my kernel got updated which needed updated nvidia driver, and I rebooted before noticing that. (Very old laptop, so nvidia drivers for this aren’t in repos, hence the issue). I didn’t use it for gaming though (very old laptop, wouldn’t even run old games)

BTW I recently went the opposite way, have been using only Linux for over a decade but got a new laptop a month back and kept the windows as a dual boot, though my main interest is to use it only for MS/Xbox first party games, that don’t have Linux support. Saving me from buying a separate Xbox.

  • Disclaimer: I haven’t played it yet, but I have talked to people who have liked it and who have hated it.

The games is very good, but it’s not a typical Final Fantasy game. They have removed, or reduced the RPG elements, and made it a very good action game with good narrative. So, if you go in expecting an RPG like previous Final Fantasy games you won’t like it. If you just go in expecting a good action / adventure game with some RPG elements, you’ll probably end up liking it

  • Good for the devs!

I agree that it feels whiny and petty. As I mentioned in other comment, they are an indie studio, and probably spent their own (significant) amount of money (and resources) and just had an outburst when they were feeling completely helpless.

When your every message doesn’t go through a PR team, both the good and the bad shows.

Again, this is just speculation though. For all we know, they messed up something on their side, which broke the communication with MS.
