  • The second thing you mentioned is what I’m asking about. A browser doesn’t solve this problem (as far as I know) because It’s still using the steam webpage’s interface. It would have to be some kind of alternative website frontend that grabs all the data from the steam website and gives it back to you in a different (better) way.

I’m not familiar with the steam decks version you mentioned

  • I’m never on here during work. Even if I was, that point is pretty unhelpful. I think it’s a normal thing for people to want an unlimited supply of content, as that’s what we’ve gotten used to and that’s what these websites are for. What’s it to you, to dictate how I want to use my time? Whether this behavior is a good or bad thing is another argument. I think the limited content supply here is a concession that most people have accepted on Lemmy, but I also think that it’s possible that it wouldn’t have to be a concession as the platforms grow and get better.

  • Lemmy definitely replaced reddit as my daily driver. The only time I ever visit reddit anymore is for obscure troubleshooting information that is usually old.

I never really got into twitter. The format just doesn’t interest me very much, like others have mentioned. Mastodon definitely seems cool though. I created an account just because.

I’ve been on discord, but I could probably easily switch that to matrix because I don’t have that many friends…

I hope that something like peertube will take off, but I’m not really on that one. For now, I’ve resigned to using alternative frontends (newpipe, freetube, etc.). I’m trying to give odysee a fair chance, but the content just isn’t quite there yet for me.

The most extreme things that I want to switch out is google, and microsoft. I’m basically going to have to swap operating systems on my phone, as well as my laptop. That pales in comparison to my vehicle though. Lately the idea has been floating around in my head to downgrade my vehicle to something that was before android auto/ apple carplay. Vehicle manufactures have made it impossible to opt out of anything. I hate this so much.

  • -Organic maps

Beautifully designed open source navigation alternative. It’s not perfect, because I still have to do some auxiliary searching occasionally, but I’m really enjoying using it instead of Google

    -Quickweather

Another beautifully designed app. Not perfect, but just really nice to look at because of how well it was done. I still use myradar as my main driver, admittedly.

    -ViMusic

Again, one of the most beautifully designed apps I’ve ever seen. It has a few bugs, but I really enjoy using this one. It uses YouTube music as the back end.

    -Newpipe and freetube

Either of these work pretty good as a better way to watch YouTube videos. I’m glad people are fighting back against Google’s bullshit…

    -Eternity

This is currently my favorite Lemmy front end. I’ve tried many so far and this one seems to have the best functionality and customization too.
