what console exclusives for the PS5? it has 7. that’s it. only 7 that you can ONLY play on the PS5. (used to be 8 but Death Stranding 2 just came out on PC). and of those 7 maybe ONE of which is a console seller, maybe, and that’s Astro Bot and while it’s a good game I say that as a massive stretch that it’s worth a $650 point of entry.

the ps5 doesn’t have any exclusives that drive sales. none.

I subscribe to TWiT cause I grew up on The Screen Savers and Call for Help and regardless of what people think of him I still like Leo Laporte, the guy is my childhood. Anywho I listen to all their podcasts and I’ll sometimes listen to their weekly Mac one and it is absolutely insane the cult like behavior with these mac fans on this show. Oh they’ll complain about the monitors and everything else but will still continue to defend it all by the end. There is one woman on the show that just rants and raves constantly about the dumb decisions Apple makes but openly admits that she’ll continue to buy their products.

At least on the Windows podcast the one dude will go ham on Microsoft weekly and I feel is pretty much just on the podcast to make fun of them. Then you have the Linux podcast where those guys just make fun of everything and it’s honestly entertaining. Plus they have one guy who is in his 80s on there who is an absolute gem.

which is surprising as there are A LOT of GNOME fanboys. I personally don’t get it, I’ve tried several times to give it a shot but it just constantly annoys the piss out of me.

to be fair the beauty of Plasma is you can quite literally make it look like anything you want. Want to make it look like windows 98? it’s easily doable. CDE? yup if you want. something like windowmaker? sure thing.

I would suspect with a bit of work and the use of widgets it wouldn’t surprise me if you could make Plasma mimic GNOME.

yeah at the time I REALLY wished I knew the easiest fix was a stupid bracket I wouldn’t have gone through so many. I loved my zip drive but after like the 4th or 5th one dying on me I gave up.

Orphan Black, Letterkenny, Shorzy, Littlest Hobo, SCTV, Fraggle Rock, Schitt’s Creek, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High (not the newer ones with Drake), The Red Green Show, Reboot, Transformers: Beast Wars (or as it was known here just “Beasties”) Street Cents, This Hour has 22 Minutes, Mr. Dressup…really hard to just pick one.

Meta is lobbying for all this crap and forcing it on everyone else (including Linux) with the only exception being…Meta. Google, Apple, etc will be in the same boat as Linux with Meta leveraging itself as the potential only “safe harbor”.

it had quite a few gems. The WipEout games were some of the best in the series, the God of War games were very good. Battlefield II on it was great. Final Fantasy Tactics and Crisis Core. Jeanne D’Arc was one of the best tactics game ever. Ys Seven, Megaman Powered Up, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Ape Escape, the Killzone game on it was very good, LocoRocco 1 and 2, Final Fantasy Dissida, Monster Hunter, Daxter, Special Agent Clank, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.

Linux has come a long way in the past few years. I only just started using it like maybe a year and half to 2 years ago and even since then I’ve noticed how much easier it’s become to use for an average user. Distros like Fedora KDE, Bazzite, CachyOS, etc have made the entire thing so much more user friendly. especially Desktop Environments like KDE Plasma which has also improved massively in the past year. Even the recent release of GNOME 50 is quite good and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t even like GNOME.

I don’t even remember 7 now. I know I had it I just don’t remember it. seems like after XP it was all downhill. I remember the shit that was Vista, but 7 and 8 I don’t remember at all. probably because they had such a short lifespan. 10 was absolute shit and 11 made me switch to Linux.

basically RetroDeck is a one and done type of deal. one package (flatpak) that has everything pre-configured and good to go as opposed to say RetroArch where you have to pick your cores (emulators) and what have you. on say a SteamDeck something like RetroDeck is naturally going to be easier to use and set up but when it comes to a Linux desktop it’s all really a non-factor. Like for example most distro repos have either a complete library of the cores for Retroarch or you can pick and choose which ones you want. like on Arch for example the package “libretro” will give you everything or on Nix/NixOS you can pick and choose which ones to install with Retroarch.

IF you like warhammer 40k or want to get into the lore (it’s god damn insanely deep and interesting) there are a few VERY good videos that are multiple hours long that pretty much come out on a weekly basis. https://www.youtube.com/@Luetin09 is my favourite. if I have nothing to do one a weekend afternoon i’ll just put his vids on while I do some dev work or play around with my pc configs. each video is easily 2+ hours. and it’s just lore.

I don’t even know how to play WH40k, I don’t own any of the minitures, but damn do I know all the lore because of his vids.

imho in a weird way cassettes were better/more fun. Like wanting to record a song you like so you’d sit in front of the tape deck for hours on end listening to the radio waiting for that ONE song to come on so you could record it. It would take you hours, maybe even days, to make that mixtape of songs you didn’t own.

Also when I was a kid I had one of those fisher price tape decks that had the microphone attached to it. I wanted to make a mix tape of all my favourite songs from my NES games or games that I would rent (like the Battletoads theme song, or the music from the Batman videogame) so I would pop the game in then hold the microphone up to the TV speaker and record the songs.

yup in the early to mid 10’s every company, startup, etc offshored to India and the drivel that came back was about on par with today’s AI/LLMs. just complete garbage that either needed heavy refactoring or just start over from scratch with competent devs. So seeing all this with AI today I can only think “I’ve seen this episode before”

It’s essentially Arch with a custom kernel and repos. That being said the Kernel and repos are REALLY good. very optimized. I use the CachyOS Kernel on my NixOS system and I use the repos as well as the kernel on a regular Arch system. If you’re a gamer then you’ll notice a definite increase in performance. the devs/maintainers of CachyOS are also very transparent and provide constant updates.

Now you’ll probably ask “well why not just use CachyOS itself?” to which I’ll say they pack A LOT of stuff into the distro most of which I just don’t need. It can result in a long install time, much longer than most distros. But if you want a solid easy to install distro right out of the box you can’t go wrong. They also support just about every DE and WM under the sun. Seriously when you install it they provide you with options for everything AND also provide you with custom configs for everything so you can say use Niri or Hyprland or whatever right away without having to do much if any further configuration. They also have configurations for shells too. They also have their own version of Proton which is quite good, I also use that. They also provide you with the option to have snapper/timeshift set up for you right off the bat so you don’t have to worry about rolling back if something goes wrong.

They also have a fairly new updating feature which I love. Basically it’s a version of pacman where anyone can use it/figure it out. Like other distros like Fedora or Debian it’ll notify you when there are updates and will walk you through the process of updating, providing you with recent Arch News while you update, then clear out orphaned dependencies and clear your cache for you. it’s really a very good updater.

Overall it’s a very solid and easy to use Arch based distro and a fantastic introduction to Arch.

like it or not linkedin and replying to tech bros posts calling them out. eventually a desperate upper manager or cto or ceo will notice and contact me to fix their fuck up. It was March or April of 2008 and I worked in the porn industry as a web developer and moderator for user submitted content sites. One site in particular that I managed was gaytube which at the time was owned by Twisty’s/Pink Visual/Carsed Marketing. As a moderator for gaytube it was my responsibility to approve or deny all user submitted content to the site. and there was a lot of it. daily. Affiliate content got approved regardless but users had to be vetted. enter a guy from Eastern Europe named Alexi or Alex.

He’d submit stuff constantly of shoving things up his ass. like whatever it was. food, random objects, whatever. One day in March or April of 2008 he submitted this clip. all of it. in it’s entirety. I watched it. I was one of if not the first person OTHER than Alexi to watch this thing. so. much. blood.

Naturally I had to deny it. But even after denying a clip I still had access to the upload. Now since I was in the industry I had access to all the industry forums and other user sites that people in the industry would use like the message board “gofuckyourself” (seriously, that’s what it was called). I was on speaking terms with the guy that ran efukt and I would always share with him weird shit via gofuckyourself that would get submitted to one of the many sites I worked on like the victorian era E.T. porn or the duct tape ninja turtles porn for example. So I decided to send him this clip. he uploaded it. the rest is history.
