Android@lemmy.world•Inside Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device everEnglish
15·2 months agoFirst and foremost, it doesn’t matter at all that it was made in 2019. It plays every video I’ve ever thrown at it and it’s still getting updates.
Second, it’s very easy to replace the launcher, as already mentioned in the thread.
Third, a general purpose computer would almost certainly be more powerful in absolute terms, it would also be much worse in terms of usability for the specific purpose of playing videos and acting like a tv appliance. I’ve used HTPCs before and worked very hard at making them comfortable to use with a TV. No matter how hard I tried, they were always clunky. As soon as I got the shield, I never contemplated using an htpc again.
This painfully stupid and also hilarious

Technology@lemmy.world•Electric motorcycles with solid-state batteries seem to be coming soon.English
1·2 months agoI agree. I’m very skeptical about their claims and so far I can’t find any evidence of 3rd party verification of anything. All the “news” about their batteries is just glorified press releases.

14·2 months agoIn the context of lithium-ion batteries, “solid state” means that there’s no liquid electrolyte, rather than meaning there are no moving parts.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop (VTT) is now free to playEnglish
0·4 months agoIt should be noted that the OGL stuff for D&D is included in the free part, along with the ORC licensed rules from Paizo for Pathfinder 2e. I think there are one or two other systems included as well but I’ve never looked at them.
C’mon, how did you miss the obvious: plumpkins?
Normalize footie pajama daywear!

Grotesque.
Named windows 365 because that’s how many days of the year you’ll pay for it (and hate it).
