  • I started that like 10 years ago, unfortunately I have a funky shaped head so it doesn’t look as good as it may on others but I do enjoy the maintenance on it. I can definitely tell these days it won’t grow back like it used to (much thinner on the top, edging back on the top sides). However being able to use a hair trimmer once a week myself is cheap, and less things to do while getting ready in the morning.

I can understand since society seems to put value on hair but not worrying about it (some confidence) goes a long way. I barely think about it nowadays.

  • How do you find which one you want with 150 open? Genuinely curious is all, I’m old and mostly use PC and can type quick enough to find what I want if I know which site (wikis for games and such). If I had to scroll through 150 tabs I’d spend half the time looking through a list so wonder how it helps to have that many open. Or maybe I just don’t read fast enough to scroll well.

  • He does say he only checks via prescient, in the book’s time, to make sure they’re still on the golden path so he can get surprised. That is one of my favourite bits as well, he sort of gapped out for a moment. Then later we get introduced to him talking about wool gathering when Moneo’s mind wanders, that just made me ponder if that phrase was because he kept thinking about his surprise earlier in the story due to his own wool gathering. If I recall that phrase came up a few times in the series but I can’t remember if earlier or later books.

Also if you think about it, never being surprised and living thousands of years would be quite boring and humanizes him in a way that most people would not think of since he’s the worm.

  • This has made me wonder, did any 90s film capture the source material well? I say this as someone who went from teen to young adult those years. Mean you can usually tell a movie’s decade, but this one sort of captured the 90s action movies as an aesthetic to me. Or maybe cause Stallone was in his groove for a bit which was an earlier/mid 90s thing too. Never read the comics but did enjoy the Dredd movie much more, and can’t go wrong with Karl Urban that I’ve seen.

I’m sure some lesser known comics did better but definitely not Batman, sure there were others I didn’t watch or realize were comic related.

  • According to a few Google searches it was a physisict Hugh Everett in the late 50s. I am sure there were others in more meta and philosophical concepts in the past but I get the idea he is the known physicist to come up with it.

Disclaimer I didn’t read a lot but his name came up a few times and I assume he had a theory that could relate to physics at the time.

I still like that Flash was probably the first for pop culture, when weird time travel started happening in other shows (after deep into Flash recent series) I started joking it was just Barry messing up crap between the multiverse and time.

  • First year programming in the late 90s … segmentation fault? I put printfs everywhere. Heh. You’d still get faults before the prints happened, such a pain to debug while learning. Though we weren’t really taught your point of the comment at the time.

Least that was my experience on an AIX system not sure if that was general or not, the crash before a print I mean.

  • Yup I agree, and usually don’t start looking up actors till a bit of a slow point in a movie (or later if it’s really engaging and only outside of theatre of course), every time I see it’s him I’m surprised cause I sort of enjoy recognizing actors. I’m sure there’s more similarities than I recognize for many actors but playing Poe, to Duke Atredies to billionaire ‘genius’ so well has made him unrecognizable at first, and sometimes I wouldn’t realize even cause I suck at seeing though beards for visual recognition.

I just scrolled quickly and didn’t see it but the guy who played Peck ( William Atherton) in Ghostbusters the first one. Evidently he was not well received after the movie, least for awhile. He was a great at playing asshole characters in the 80s.

  • Software devs and designers usually fall under IT is my understanding but I can see why many people/places would make the distinction. Especially for companies that only write software, their IT would more be the infrastructure, but if they’re only writing software for in house use that’s more on the IT side. I could be completely wrong about this too, just how I saw them grouped.

  • Would it be that complicated if people knew the lunar cycle, especially since the lunar cycle is fairly static? Not everyone I’m sure but those that needed a better time would probably understand and pass that knowledge along for the night folk. Of course depends when in technology we’re talking but I’d assume we humans understood those cycles pretty early for our survival, not in depth but they got the idea the lunar cycle didn’t change like the seasons did and adjust as needed. I haven’t read up on it so I’ll be glad to hear more info.
