Standardize plurals!
It’s all right otherwise. Not phenomenal, but not crap. The specs you can get with other laptops. The hardware feel isn’t as good as a Dell XPS or an X1 Carbon. The expansion card stuff is kinda cool, but other laptops have ports too. I’ve never swapped out the cards.
The main reason I bought this laptop is repairability. If that’s not your main priority, then I probably wouldn’t recommend this laptop.
If you want to use this laptop with Linux and not spend time fixing hardware compatibility issues, then I definitely would not recommend this laptop. Definitely get a Dell XPS for a Linux laptop that Just Works.
Agreed! Not saying it’s not a software issue. Of course the software is broken. Of course I wish it was updated.
But, Framework seeing the landscape and picking hardware with known issues is a bad choice. They could offer lower DPI and eliminate entire pages of workarounds and half fixes.
Yes, high DPI should work, but it doesn’t everywhere. That’s just the reality, I wish it wasn’t.
Blurry and tiny apps come from Framework’s poor choice of display. Other laptops don’t have this problem.
Yes, I’m aware of software-side issues, but it’s still their fault for seeing the software issues and then picking a broken display anyway.
HiDPI has to be supported by all toolkits, desktops, and applications at this point. There are no excuses.
I mean… yeah, I agree. Would you mind sending that email to the millions of devs around the world? Not sure if they’re aware of this.
I just want to be able to read my screen. 😭
If it meant I could actually see my apps because they’re not blurry and not tiny. Then hell yeah! Luckily, it’s not a choice between all the DPI and none of the DPI.
It’s possible.
I use Gboard. I really want to like the FUTO keyboard, but it unfortunately sucks for typing. Not sure what magic secret sauce Gboard has, but with the FUTO keyboard I basically mistype almost every word. Maybe Gboard has some tap target corrections or something? I’ve tried pushing through with the FUTO keyboard for about a month, but I think I’m ready to uninstall it. )`:
I stopped caring about British units in 1776! Metric all the way, baby! 🇺🇸 We decimalized their dumb ass currency and we need to finish the job with weights and measures! A vote for imperial units is a vote for red coats! Vote for me for President and I will liberate us from British tyranny! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 🦅🦅🦅
It’s possible! We can switch! I’m US born and raised and I voluntarily switched to metric in college. It took me maybe we few months to start building an intuition for Celsius, grams, liters, and meters. And that was with me in isolation. I would imagine it would be much faster if everyone else was also transitioning.
Over the years, other people have asked me about this and I’ve been shocked at how many people don’t realize most of the world uses metric. Someone asked why I was using “Mexico units” once… Also, I’ve met lots of people who think the US invented inches, pounds, etc, which is… uh… interesting. The arguments y’all are having here are way more advanced than what I’ve run into.
For anyone who wants to voluntarily switch, I highly recommend not to convert between imperial and metric. Just read the metric number and that’s it. The weather says it’s 25c outside? Don’t convert to F. Go outside, experience 25c. Over time you’ll build an intuition. Smartphones and computers have made the switch easier these days.
Of course, until we all switch you’ll really end up being bilingual…
The Honda Fit is one of my favorite cars I’ve ever owned. So damn practical and affordable.
lelz. can relate. I was at a family’s house for the holiday and they had a book about California history… Shit was funny as hell. The first 30 pages was basically just shit talking Californios, Spanish, and Mexican settlers. They quoted a lot of English, French, and United Statian visitors instead of the people who lived in California… Comments ranged from “the Californios looked uncivilized” to “they wasted the land they had”. Then on page 31, they had 1 small paragraph were they talked about “an event” where the US acquired the land. Uh, ya mean the bullshit war where the US invaded Mexico and stole half of it?! The book continued with a whole chapter on the gold rush. XD Fucking trash!
I think I would choose 30, but I’d like to do my 20s differently. Lifestyle creep is real. I notice my younger coworkers also make the mistake of spending way too freely. I’d also get married earlier. And take bigger risks earlier.
I totally binged Alan Wake 1 in like 2 days. Then spent a while enveloped by Alan Wake 2! Part 2 really got the AAA treatment. It was funny, spooky, actiony. Lots of stuff to explore, the characters play differently.
I also didn’t realize Control was part of the story, so now I gotta go play that!
when the doom music kicks in
What’s a webradio? https://www.funkwhale.audio/ seems like a music app? Hmm… Seems interesting.
I was wondering the same thing. It seems more proper to run a separate government Mastodon server. Otherwise, they’re showing preferential treatment to one company.
Although… they probably can’t handle self hosting? But really? The all mighty US can’t self host a server?
LOL! I ran into him yesterday and he was telling me he had to work over the weekend because people have left and they are now understaffed! 😂 git rektt!
Maybe? It was an “optional” lunch meeting. I tend to skip meetings that aren’t required because I want to keep working.
But, sure. I understand managers/leaders want to feel important, so fine, I show up to the meetings. I sit at the desk, open the laptop, and tune them out while I actually get work done. Like, the thing we’re supposed to be doing. I have the 15 pieces of flair, ok.
That’s a great start! Taco Bell is probably the healthiest fast food. A power bowl is lettuce, tomatoes, beans, a little cheese, a little beef. Way better than greasy burger with oil drenched fries!
