I used to moderate a subreddit about talking to Trump Supporters, and my mod team was pretty small but we were close even though not all of us were Trump Supporters. I think about them a lot.

I also had this dynasty team on some mobile space war game, with so many branches and feeder teams and tons of in-game and real life geopolitics. It was wild, and again, I was really close with my fellow team leaders.

And in both cases I’ve never said a word to any of them since leaving basically. No Ill will, just going to a different school now, so to speak.

One small sense in which I’m proud of my younger self is that I had a similar insight to this around like 11, and pretty much decided then and there that I wasn’t going to pay to wear someone else’s logo (excepting bands & similar) and I would avoid wearing someone else’s logo if I wasn’t being paid to.

And I’ve pretty much stood by that. I’ve made some exceptions for smaller companies that I felt were doing something positive and worth promoting, or for open source things.

Man I sure wish so many of these didn’t resonate with me so well.

Honestly, ich_iel has done more for my understanding than Duolingo did, but it is still almost nil.
