15 years ago I went on a 3 month Semester at Sea study trip on a small cruise ship circumnavigating the globe.

There was only a handful of whitelisted sites available on the WiFi, otherwise you would need to pay a ton for the satellite connection or … have a staff password.

At least with my group we had a a healthy list of credentials that had been acquired in various ways. Even with occasional password changes, we managed to stay connected.

I have a 45 minute high speed train commute to a busy end-of-line station. I can sleep, read, work, or just stare out the window and think.

Same commute is probably twice as long by car during rush hour.

I still include Google results in my Searx.

Definitely miss the good ol’ days where it was optimized to give the best results. Same goes for Netflix recommendations back in the the DVD mailer days…

We have I-Root and K-Root in Europe, these are certainly used…

You might also find the Python library pandas useful. Its “DataFrames” can mirror your excel data 1:1 and you have convenience methods like to_excel(). Easy to combine with numpy for performant matrix math.

XLSX just becomes a container for storing/sharing your data, and while Python is used for analysis. I would use matplotlib for plotting rather than embedding in the sheet.

If I’m doing anything substantial, calculation-wise, I use openpyxl.

Agreed. I really tried to like Libre/OpenOffice over the years but it never felt right. OnlyOffice really hits the spot for me.

I don’t use Windows much any more but I was happy with the discounted student version of Office 2016, afaik the last perpetual license.

I find Lemmy is better with fewer users just like Reddit used to be.

I kinda miss a few subs but they’ve been replaced by new things I discovered here.

The websites can coexist and users can do as we please.

It can also save money. I love just printing things I need rather than buying them! Even if I have to do some test fits, I can easily beat off-the-shelf prices with some meters of PLA.

Happy with my Prussia mini, but starting to feel the post-processing itch.
