Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s the one killer feature of Lemmy / PieFed / Mbin?
2·19 days agoAs a user of both, I’m now getting repelled by reddit’s AI bots spreading AI and polymerket propaganda
I guess the feature here is not being bombarded with suggested communities and posts. Everything here is basically intentional choice, a double edge sword but surely a healthy one
But I do go back from time to time, I do want to chat with people with different political views
spoiler
It has in nuTrek as a major plot point!
In Italian we have both “biscotto” (double-cooked) for cookie and “ricotta” (re-cooked) which has no translation, both are also done cooking something twice
If your only digit is pi, I believe it’s {1}

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some simple changes you made to your life or some workflow that has improved your life a lot?
4·1 month agoSince last summer i put a series of repeating activities on my calendar, one for every day of the week. Their main effect is reminding me that my free time could be spent on personal prpjects that do not necessarily need to lead to something public.
It also encourages intentional boredom, as opposed to scrolling. I don’t know if it improved my life a lot, i end up ignoring the suggested activities most of the times, but it helps me keeping that frame of mind, and it probably allowed me to put effort in a few things i care for.
On the picture: hundreds of flats with individual windows and balcony
Oh no, giving hundreds of families a balcony, how terribile! What’s next: non-shared bathrooms and kitchens?

This is based on one controversial source, an article written by a priest, to which the commission board decided to formally respond with concern, including for conflict of interest
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5567452/
There is a whole discussion.
The point of having sources is not to demonstrate a number is true, but to allow readers to see how scientific are the findings. You can read the discussion for yourself.
This poster cherrypicks a controversial article that shows the numbers the poster authors wanted, despite it being an outlier in that research space
Of my two examples, one is a cooperative, indeed there are people in Spain who go work there, and the other one is not a country, but a people inside Turkey, that has to military defend their own existance
I’d be very happy to go work in Mondragon or another worker cooperative. I was looking for a job in one yesterday
If you are interested on contemporary socialist economy professors talking about the experiences in the soviet union and in China, there are some, Richard Wolff is a nice one to start with. He carefully explains concepts of Marxism and to what extent they were applied in various cases, but then focuses on what current socialists advocate for.
If you want working examples of non-capitalist systems, that are sorts of socialist systems, we have worker coops such as the Mondragon coop in Spain, or the Democratic Confederalism of Kurdistan
If you are not interested in learning anything of socialism past what billionaires’ propaganda tells you, you are very free to do so
Tbh it could just be that the dems are doing a China move: do nothing and win
Right now trump can either reference Biden, knowing people are sick of that, or he simply doesn’t have a definite target, “the radical left”. An emerging leader of the centre would give him a target. So it makes sense they stay quiet.
I’m not a us citizen tho, I know that there is a lot of political activism, especially around the DSA, and the recent big protests are good signs. What I expect is that whoever ends up being the democratic leader will have a very hard time being a centrist. The demo-socialists have a big chance, but corporate media is also going to play its role in supporting a rethoric of “now that we’ve seen crazy let’s go for someone respectable, not another crazy”.
The opposition, in the wide sense, is basically Sanders and the DSA, in my view, because they are popular and they are winning some local elections, including NY. But I still doubt they are going to be the face of the dem strategy for 2028, let alone the midterms.
