No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do people who were blind from birth see anything in their dreams, or is it just audio and textures?
6·5 days agoAs OP is asking about dreaming, I think “seeing” means pictures or brains produce during dreams that appear to the dreamer as if they were perceived through their eyes.
The votes are federated. A CCP critic post by a LW user in an LW community can be up/downvoted by users on any instance that LW is federating with, including the tankie-heavy flagship instance
lemmy.ml.Please correct me if I’m wrong, but an LW user should not ‘see’ the up/downvotes from users on
hexbear.netandlemmygrad.ml, as LW does not federate with these instances, i.e. LW does not pull any information from them.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•if all birds sing and if they do why do geese honk, ducks quack, and chickens bawk?
2·8 days agoOh gosh! It sounds like the russian was coming.
It’s probably because of its problem in pronouncing the “i” correctly. (Probably only Germans will get that joke)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•if all birds sing and if they do why do geese honk, ducks quack, and chickens bawk?
2·8 days agoCrows, jays and woodpeckers are songbirds too. Especially woodpeckers do indeed sing nicely. The singing of corvidae (crows, ravens, jays and alike) isn’t everybody’s taste.
Both definitions seem to be present:
In computing, text-based user interfaces (TUI) (alternately terminal user interfaces, to reflect a dependence upon the properties of computer terminals and not just text), is a retronym describing a type of user interface (UI) common as an early form of human–computer interaction, before the advent of bitmapped displays and modern conventional graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
Exactly. A TUI is not a replacement for a GUI where human interaction is essential to the process.
You’re thinking of a CLI, a TUI allows for human interaction.
As you said, that’s an example of a CLI, yet a TUI would be something different, e.g. like the non-graphical installer of your dear Linux distribution.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Debian will remain free, but we don't know about Cachy OS or Endeavour OS
7·16 days agoFreeBSD and Linux are both unixoid OSes. (More precisely, Linux is only a kernel, an OS using Linux is usually known as GNU/Linux or as some like to call it GNU+Linux)
Unlike Linux, which was backwards engineered to be POSIX (a Unix standard) compatible, FreeBSD derived directly from Unix (although it doesn’t use any original Unix code anymore).
Wikipedia does a better job here:
The rusty-spotted cat (Prionailurus rubiginosus) is one of the cat family’s smallest members. It is native to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should street racers who accidentally kill people really go to prison?
31·26 days agoBy that definition shooting into a crowd with a gun would not qualify for murder unless the perpetrator had the intention to kill (dolus directus). Other criteria are malice aforethought and dolus eventualis, i.e. it must have been obvious to the perpetrator that people may be severerely harmed due to their (his/her) action.
