Same here, I liked seasons 1-3 better than books 1-3 but books 4-6 better than seasons 4-6. And then there’s the amazing books 7-9 which sadly didn’t get adapted at all.
But I mean, it’s the same thing as this FB/IG case, no? Only worse because even if you pay, you still have ads.
The biggest Czech website (Seznam.cz) recently changed their policy and now force you to choose between: free tier with personalised ads or paid tier with anonymous ads. Yes, you’re reading it right, even if you pay, it doesn’t get rid of ads, they just stop tracking you. I have no idea whether it’s legal but the EU should definitely take a look.
Edit: Ok, I think they only offer you this choice when you’re using an account. I tried it in a private tab and it seems I can decline personalized ads there. Does that make it legal? If yes, then they’re some sneaky bastards.
Seriously, all the other photos from the event are pretty meh but this one is World Press Photo material.
Did they puke from the altitude or because they were riding in a Peugeot 405 T16 uphill?
Right? Even here in Czechia, which is like in the TOP 3 most atheistic countries in the world, everyone knows it’s Easter. And no one has a problem with it (nor with Christmas), everyone accepts is as part of cultural heritage. Some people in this thread have such a weird take.
(×) I don't discuss my colleagues' works or my own. A novelist writes from
many viewpoints; opinions expressed even by a first-person character are not
necessarily those of the author. Fiction is sold as entertainment, not as fact.
(×) Please do not write to me again.
Sincerely yours,

Ok, after a great finale, I can say that season 2 was definitely a step-up from season 1. Basically the Empire thread continued to be great and the Foundation thread finally became much more interesting and more interweaved with the Empire story line. I even stopped caring that it barely follows the books.
Hober Mallow / Bel Riose death scene was masterfully done.
That can’t be said about Salvor’s death however. I replayed the scene about 5 times and I can’t wrap my head around it, am I the only one? Shouldn’t have Gaal be the one who got blasted? I think they must have broken the 180-degree rule or something because I was sure the whole time Salvor was opposite to Gaal with Josiah being between them but that can’t logically be true. Such a badly filmed/edited scene, though a complete outlier compared to the rest of the show.
And so much for my theory that Josiah would become the Mule, with the neck scar being the distinguishing mark, lol.
I thought till the last moment the Invictus would be able to activate its hyperdrive and jump away but no, the maniacs actually did it, they blew it up! I felt a great disturbance in the Force.
Rendezvous with Rama by A. C. Clarke. Honestly, anything by Clarke fits your criteria very well. Very little world building or character development, just straight to the point hard (but still amazing!) sci-fi. His short stories are fun too.
P.S. You may stumble across legends that Rama has three sequels. Don’t believe them, there is only one book. And even if it were true, the sequels wouldn’t be written by Clarke despite him being listed as a co-author.
Thought it was a stylized parrot in the thumbnail.
Hey, I didn’t even know there were more instances when I joined. I just went where RIF sent me, lol.
I occasionally open RIF just to see if it’s still working which it is but it doesn’t let me login, meaning I can only access the front page of /r/all and man, it is abysmal. The content there doesn’t even motivate me to stay there any longer than for a quick glance, lol. Tbf, if I open old.reddit on PC while logged in (which I now almost never do and I haven’t posted anything there since June 31), it is better but it still doesn’t feel completely the same. Plenty of subs still missing, some other that I didn’t use to see much are now more present instead, and then there’s /r/videos which still requires profanity in titles but now also, hilariously, only allows text transcripts of videos with no link to them.
Spent most of the days hiking and biking in the mountains.
I spent the last few days almost literally under a rock and… what the hell is Threads and why is it everywhere?
Wait, that’s a photo? I thought it was a stylized rendering at first. The colors are almost vaporwave.
