Its no longer a community, now its an entire instance. And boy does it show sometimes.

I scrolled the comments and some comments are about some paid search engine, definitely seems suspicious and especially when OP didn’t give us any of his search parameters.

I tried " movie woman assassin cold war" and one of the first results was “Atomic Blonde”, which is what I was trying to get at. I then searched “movie two guys solve a murder comedy”, the first link was some IMDb list about comedy/murder films that also had a bunch of buddy cups cop films on it and number 19 on that list was “The Nice Guys”, which is what I was getting at. I would really want to know what this guy searched for because I refuse to believe he spent an hour searching and didn’t find it. I don’t remember the last time that happened to me honestly. Even the two times I tried just now were pretty generic (especially the second one) and yet I found them quickly.

In Finland, the closest equivalent to this is some D list celebrity (so like someone who was in Big Brother or something) performing the ceremony on a cruise to Sweden. There is no direct equivalent however.

It does have an aux-in, but I don’t have anything to plug into it.

Shit like this is why I got a dumb speaker. It just plays audio, it doesn’t have a battery (meaning that unplugged = zero power), it doesn’t have wifi, it doesn’t have an assistant, it just plays the music I ask it to play via Bluetooth.

Some people on here will never realize that only paid devs putting in full days will make a platform like Lemmy grow to even a fourth of what Reddit is right now. Part time, unpaid devs will never grow this platform to that size and one way or another, those devs will want to be able to support themselves and that is either through donations or somekind of monetization, which may or may not include monetizing user data. It’s just honest facts that it costs money to run servers and that money has to come from somewhere. It takes time to develop an app and in the case of Sync (probably Boost as well) it’s just one dev and that takes a lot of his time. Nobody would do that amount of work for free.

According to the Boost dev in this thread, its literally required by Google to say that. So I am guessing that any social media app has to say that.

This is how I feel about Bluesky. It’s so good, but really needs more people.

Well they don’t directly force you to use it, but when basically all of the most popular browsers (including the default browser of Windows) are Chromium based, that means that developers optimize their sites for that first and foremost. And combined with Google’s amp protocol, which adds control for them, it means that they can dictate many terms for these other companies. It’s like sure, you can use Vimeo to upload your video, but who the hell is gonna see it when there’s YouTube? Same thing here, why use some other standard (such as what Firefox is doing) when the support for Chromium is that much greater, even though it’s more restrictive in others.

That’s because of all the problems your idea would cause. Identity theft would run rampant, stalking would become easier than ever before, tracking people down would just be one search, etc. I mean you truly did bring up an unpopular opinion, I’ll give you that.

I believe I got 3.2% this year and 2.8% next year, or in other words, I got completely shafted. Doesn’t even cover food cost going up.

I might shell out the money for ad free at some point, but right now I’m not confident that Lemmy will be relevant in a year. That said, the app is fantastic and I made it look exactly like the Reddit version of the app. It’s just such a good app, I love it.

It’s beautiful, its the sync I know and love. It’s so damn beautiful.
