I got some free computers from my workplace, and I am considering installing Crystal Linux (an easy to use Arch-based distro in beta I learned about from DistroTube) on them and giving them to my mom and half-brother. I’m going to see how well it goes and if it works well for beginner Linux users. I’ll let you know if I get any feedback.
No worries :)
I commented about SUSE having a similar export policy as Fedora in that post, and from what I read, it applies to OpenSUSE, too.
I found this forum post about this topic:
The GDI and Nod discs from this do work, but you can search for more discs on archive.org and other places to get other disc images for The First Decade, Covert Operations, etc.:
https://archive.org/details/command-and-conquer-tiberian-dawn
You may also find discs here:
https://cncnz.com/features/freeware-classic-command-conquer-games/
OpenRA’s wiki mentions these locations:

(I think)
https://archive.org/details/command-conquer-red-alert_202309
https://archive.org/details/cnctfd-game-disc
Gold GDI & Nod, Covert Operations, Red Alert Allied and Soviet, Counterstrike, Aftermath, Tiberian Sun (Demo)
https://archive.org/details/cc_worldwide_warfare
https://archive.org/details/dune-2000-2001-ea-westwood-studios-cd
Not included in mod but available to test if built with source: Issue, Milestone
Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, Red Alert 2, Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge, Renegade, Generals (Demo)
I don’t know if any of these are necessary or if I am missing any potentially supported expansions/content, but this seemed like a good collection to post for future reference.
To install the discs when prompted, mount the isos to one of these locations on Linux:
/media/openra
/media/{user}/openra
/mnt/openra
https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/wiki/Game-Content#linux
You can use this tool to mount the disc: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/FuseISO
Make sure the directory has appropriate permissions to mount like so:
sudo chmod 777 /mnt/openra
Then mount with FuseISO:
fuseiso /path/to/iso /mnt/openra
In OpenRA, click Detect Disc or Installation (or Retry if you are already on that page) and it should be able to detect the disc and extract the files.
You can unmount and delete the directory (or mount and install other discs first before deleting the directory, of course) when OpenRA finishes extracting the files:
fusermount -u /mnt/openra
sudo rmdir /mnt/openra
I am assuming for the non-disc archives, you would be able to either copy or symlink the extracted files to one of the supported mount points, and the game should be able to detect the content. Downloads are taking a while so I haven’t been able to test yet to confirm.
OpenRA does let you download the base game files plus some other content and patches from the internet.
For those that believe that dictatorships are the only ones developing open source technology and that we should be fearful of China, I want you to watch this video regarding colonialism, the IMF debt traps placed on the Global South, and the myths of China’s trade deals with Africa (alternative link to an audio-only version). With this context in mind, you can begin to understand why countries are trying to break away from the imperialist rule of our so called democracies so they can finally build their own industries with the help of China’s trade deals, which are actually mutualistic. China is trying to build a network independent of Western hegemony, and this is why they are investing in their own open source tech.
Even if you still disagree, there’s nothing sad about this. This is a net benefit to research, development, and funding to the RISC-V ecosystem.
If you wonder why our so called democracies continue to make crappy proprietary systems, it’s because it serves the interests of corporations seeking to maximize profits by controlling and monopolizing technology. Thus, the use of open source technology by so called dictatorships might reflect their effort to counter the dominance of capitalist-owned proprietary technology.
So if these “dictatorships” are trying to overcome the struggle of Western hegemony working to spread “democracy” to nations, only to overthrow their governments when their citizens revolt or their leader wants to provide for their people, maybe it’s because we aren’t really the “good guys”. Maybe we are the dictators trying to monolopize the world for our own benefit (more specifically the benefit of the few rich that win this society of capitalist hunger games). If money speaks more than the citizens’ vote or cries for help in their own nations, and their leaders continue to work against the majority of the population, are we really democracies?

I saw his other messages regarding these issues. I wasn’t sure what he would think about what I mentioned, but I hope the other resources I’ve given are helpful to him or anyone else.
When I get around to making a custom keyboard, I want to try MTGAP.
Here’s an awesome split keyboard GitHub repository with a lot of information that may help.
I’m not sure how ergonomic this is, but it is a very unique design that enables insanely fast typing speeds: CharaChorder One.
On second thought, I would not recommend the CharaChorder, especially due to poor customer support, the double key press bug, the closed source firmware, and the fact it is still $299. I would be interested in an open source alternative, even if I had to build it myself.
Charachorder did respond to the video saying they fixed most of the issues, but if the device still has closed source firmware, that would be a dealbreaker for me, especially since you cannot remap keys at the firmware level.
Let’s have China use NixOS and improve its technological sovereignty through this distro or a fork of it. Then the US will want to ban it, lol.
