It’s an important reform no matter what, even if we have to resort to other methods to take out the class first.

It’s quite possible it’s too late for the usa, but I still do want other democracies to push for it. Only 4 odd countries have it worldwide.
Worth saying, while grassroots is less common, it is not gone. Kat in il-9 is somewhat a good example of this though she failed community engagement and came from out of town so she’s unlikely to win. Though it is arguable how grassroots she is. Of course the top priority is revoking citizens united.
It’s one of the simplest ways of helping push countries to the left, because it allows you to have people vote for the leftist politicians without worrying about boosting a right wing politician or party, as first past the post forces, and also not forcing people to vote for parties, which lock out leftist candidates from being able to gain traction as easily such as in proportional voting systems.
Ranked choice and proportional voting are 2 very different concepts. You are falsely pretending they’re similar when they’re wildly different concepts. Only Ireland presently uses it from the eu, because they as well have an establishment, and ranked choice voting is anti establishment at its core.
Why are you trying to pretend they’re the same concept?
How do you expect to have a revolution if 90% of people don’t agree with your viewpoint? And I say that as a socialist. Pushing forward the agenda over the course of decades is more likely to be successful than a single revolution, in my opinion.
You do realize that ranked choice voting is one of the simplest and least violent ways to push forward progressive candidates right? Because it makes people comfortable with voting options that with first past the post would be throw away votes
Politely, a lot of people don’t think that way, especially communists and anarchists which are common ideologies on lemmy. They truly do think of it as end all police.
In the US, you could be ruled out of a position as sheriff if you score too high on a damn IQ test.
The sheriff is an elected position for the record. You mean police officer. Not sheriff.

I mean literally no, Communism is about far more than just cheaper groceries. Communism is about overthrowing capitalism;of course capital is afraid of it, even though they deserve it
Abstaining and even voting yes on the matter simply because they know for certain that the usa will vote no, allowing them to save face. Plenty of non western countries practice that as well

22·5 months agoI think it’s worth saying that security theater isn’t pointless. Criminals tend not to be the brightest, and they tend to like to go for low hanging fruit. That makes even the pretense of security somewhat of a preventative, even when security doesn’t work. Same way a fake security camera helps.
The trouble is that they have a ridiculous amount of rights to be racist to people, abuse their power, and screw people over. Basic xray machines and security guards by itself would be reasonable, even as security theater
There’s probably some overlap where people capable of accepting themselves as transgender instead of denying it are more ready to deny tradition in general
… Do you know what moral relativism vs moral universalism are?
Those morals are your opinion. They are not fact. Arguing them as fact is already questionable.
There is multiple positions on morals. there is no such thing as a moral which is universally a standard of morals.
I specifically hate car enthusiasts, because their driving around on roads at high speeds and loud engines worsens life for other people. It’s separate from infrastructure concerns. Though I have both.
The straight pipes worsening air quality also doesn’t help.
Antagonizing people only serves to harden their position.
People don’t change their positions just because you act nicely
I’m responding to you asking for a purely moral stance, with a possible counter argument. I’m not suggesting to take without checking, I’m suggesting check and it’s very likely they have.
, it wouldn’t justify dishonesty in return
It would justify not going out of your way to return money to them.
That’s moral relativism, not ethics
There’s no such thing as morals or ethics that are not relative. Stating that has no meaning. When discussing morals, you must be willing to debate the morals foundations themselves. Are you?
In a communist non-state area, who enforces environmental protections? Who punishes rapists and murderers without being he said she said? Who prevents workplaces from unsafe working habits? Who assures buildings are up to code? Those are realistic issues, that don’t stop magically when you do away with a class system. Doing away with a class system will improve them, but not eliminate them.
An easy opposing argument would be if they’ve done wage theft. Which near every large company has. Or if they’ve used unethical business practices (ditto)

5·5 months agoI wasn’t expecting say, a mass exodus. But I was certainly surprised at how few people made the jump. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the best content creators and bot defenders didn’t continue using reddit, so the quality dropped like a stone.
I’m going to shit on people who actively make my life worse. Cars are regressive.
Alao, I didn’t call them a toaster lmfao

You say “socialist democracy” as distinct from bourgeois elections but socialism describes an economic ideology, not a system of voting. It’s not a meaningful differentiator to show how your system is different. That alone makes me get the feeling you’re kinda just tossing word salads here. But, I would like you to explain what you mean before I dismiss it as such— perhaps it has a meaning I’m unfamiliar with.
Rapidly growing, part of why I’m optimistic in a peaceful solution. But I would say that’s much more for socialism than communism.
The beautiful part of democracy, even flawed ones, is that it can’t stop you once you gather enough support, it will bend to your will
