Yep, I have shorter ones for more casual outfits and full length for dressy events. They never seem “costumey” when they go with the overall look. I’m a woman in a metro area though.
Church / bible-based
The “We Were Here” series.
Not having kids.
This has quotes from the OG Stoics that are then interpreted for modern life with a paragraph or two. I don’t fully subscribe to every interpretation, but at least it keeps me mindful in my own way.
A second thing I do when I get easily annoyed is to stop and ask myself if I’m tired, hungry, or burned / stressed out about something else. If so, I try to find one small thing in my control I can do to improve my situation. Usually by doing one thing I’m “in control” of it helps me not get so frustrated with the things beyond my control. Even if it’s just realizing that if I clean up a mess an hour later, it’s not the end of the world.
I guess the shortest answer to your question is by keeping a much bigger perspective on life.

Learning, studying, and embracing Stoicism has really helped me. I find The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday helps keep it top of mind for me. It’s a bit of a pop philosophy book, but it works for me.
Gnocchi with cream sauce, one of my favorites.
And here’s the Firefly theme. The only song I think I’ve air-violined to. So much nostalgia…
It’s a docudrama about New Orleans right after Katrina. A great, but difficult and disturbing watch. It was mostly filmed locally and each episode was named after a song and featured a local band. It was also a fundraiser.
When I make it by putting an apple in my juicer it’s pretty clear. Maybe translucent is a better word? I don’t do any special processing.
Cool - thank you for the encouragement. I added it to the nomination list.
Hi all! I’m new here, so lmk if this is out of line, but what if we did a short story since December is generally busy for folks? Maybe a selection from “Stories of Your Life and Others” by Ted Chiang, or “The Machine Stops” by E.M. Forster?
Thank you for this post - I’m now aware of this community (and subscribed) and will join you all for some reading fun in January!
If time is a problem in December, you could consider having it be a “short story” month. Like maybe a selection from “The Story of Your Life and Others,” or something like that.
It has my all time favorite TV theme song too (ok, maybe tied with Trème).
The movie is great, but it makes more sense after you’ve watched the series.
Yeah, the time change always messes me up more than I think it should. I wish we would just stop it altogether.
