It’s good your mom tried. It’s sad she gave up so soon. I’ve helped 4 people switch in the past months. I’ve gotten even more people curious and more open to switch. A success is not only the switch, but that people start to realize that they can. In my opinion. :-)
Based on linux is no guarantee for stable, secure or privacy respecting software. Android is based on Linux. :-) And so is Remarkable, and some of the e-book readers.
I really like both the idea behind e-book readers and Remarkable, but they are often a very closed environment, so forget about most FOSS, if any. They want to make money on you, and that stops, if you use other software than theirs.
And the study should also mention, that the LLMs don’t do anything by themselves, they do what they are trained to do… noting more. They are just machines.
They are worse than nazis. No punishment can be hard enough for those committing these crimes.
Is it about being “impressive”?
Well, fair enough. To me, anyone living up to human rights, is impressive to me. I don’t need an impressive logo - just a recognizable one.

Article 8 is about the right to privacy.
I get your point and idea. And I agree, there should be a symbol. But in a world full of symbols, where there is lot of symbols that overlap or mean the same thing, it’s not a great thing to ad more symbols.

Well, the “General” tab is very long. It could benefit from being split up. Fx the theme and looks should have its own tab. Same goes for Privacy and Security. Split them up. Though there is an overlap between the two, it would make it easier for most regular users to find their way. At the same time, they would learn a bit about what is about security, and what is about privacy.
Remove the AI parts - and let people opt-in, for local LLMs if you think that is needed.
Revamp the settings, so they are clear, simple and all there.
Add a bookmark manager in the browser, that is simple, and can do the basic stuff like finding duplicates and test if the adresses is working and so forth.

In theory - but it’s still primarily your IP you are hiding. And very few people only visits -onion pages…
Do you know what your fingerprint is? And all the ways you are being tracked that is not about your IP?
You do give personal info to every website you visit - with the exception of a very few, who respect your privacy. If you think you need to log in, to give personal info, then you are sadly misinformed.
But you do know that Tor/VPN is not really privacy, nor security? It hides your IP, but that’s about it. If you still login, and give any information, and that could just be your “fingerprint” you are not anonymous…
They didn’t just give them a discount, and it was only a very small part of Europe you are talking about. It was Munich, and MS also moved a lot of workplaces to the city, to bribe it…
It can’t fail, unless MS pulls a monopoly stunt or bribe politicians… There’s only a win, by ditching MS…
Because I don’t have a fickle heart, and My distro is the best, right now, for me. There’s nothing more to it. I do like Mint - but a few apps are out of date, and that’s annoying. But it’s stable, looks great, and works like a charm.
I really hope that people will make the transition instead of just buying new… Linux is great - and more users will equal more support for it.
