  • So much fun, good memories with the offroad group I fell in with during the Forum era of the internet, some of us still keep in touch.

The group had people from around the US, and even though I lived in a place like you are now there were opportunities for road trips to meet up with & go with waaaay more experienced people.

I was NOT mechanically inclined but made Incredible meals camping (sushi, smoked pulled pork, bbq tri tip beef, etc.) so I traded that for help installing mods & fixing broken shit.

The group also went to the national meet up, but we never went on “official” runs, just went on our own and to make shenanigans & meet up.

Check out (your vehicle) 4x4 groups and start there!

  • Look at the long term benefits/advancement and opportunities in the career field.

As a personal account, my first position out of college there were McDonald’s employees making more than me, however 3 years there and that was the last time I worked as an hourly employee and moved up to management, also the company I worked for was very prestigious so the opportunities to move and work overseas was available.

Granted, the 3 years was a goddamn grind…

  • That’s an opinion. Everyone in entitled to one.

But let me shed some light, the LGBTQ community that is outspoken needs to be to get to those “in the back of the room”.

In my opinion, they are doing just what suffregets, african americans and other marginalized people have done within the media scope of their time.

In time, their rights and privileges should be part of the mainstream so you won’t (shouldn’t) even think about it, it’s just another niche of humanity that binds us all together.

I, personally, don’t want to hear about someone’s lord and savior, but I live in a society that some people do.

  • The institutionalization runs deep.

The first time I moved out of the US I lived in a socialized medicine country & I just never went to the doctor. My then girlfriend casually went because she wasnt feeling well (a cold), then would go to the pharmacy for a birth control shot (no prescription needed), and finally when I had a fever and a doc came to the house at 2am (we just had to pay the taxi). I had a lengthy stay in the hospital, and a month of rehab, my employer’s nurse would stop by the house and give me an injection on his way home. And our son was born in a hospital with private rooms- all i had to pay for was my meals and overnight stay (there was a bed for me), plus the room had a mini bar…no shit.

We moved back to the US to raise the kids and then out again i to another socialized medicine country and I STILL HESITATE to go to the doctors.
