  • For rain and stuff in the Netherlands (we have some rain) you can get a rain suit I causing pants you can just wear over your normal clothes to work.

Make sure the rain suit has reflector strips or patches… your lighting and reflectors are key in Beiing seen.

Depending on the commute distance getting an Ebike helps keep your speed up without becoming massively sweaty. You can still exercise but you do it at a steady 25kph.

For groceries you can get cargo bags for on the back of the bike. Depending on the type you get they can store a lot.

Listening to music… put in one earbud only and have the volume low. But in the Netherlands we have mostly separate bike infra (protected bikebanes and such) so this might still be dangerous if there is no good bike infra.

Lastly, you can choose other routes that would normally not work by car. If you find a cut through somewhere, you maybe can avoid the dangerous stroads all together.

  • I’d argue it is not really left wing. Or maybe not JUST left wing. Sure these people have some left ideas, but that is not all, and for sure is not the most important.

This is what the word “Tankie” refers to.

They (tankjes) go out of their way to argue for totalitarian governments and dictators. As it it is some kind of fetish.

They deny the wrong doing of countries like Iran, china, Russia and other totalitarian states as if all the wrongdoing by these countries actually are not real and just some big plot by the evil western propaganda machine.

They deny tainnamen square massacre, maidan is a cia coup, Iran is actually not that bad… the list is endless.

They are worshippers at the altar of totalitarianism, the trump supporters but then for people like Putin, khameini, xi. Tankjes cheer on countries like north Korea while it starves it’s citizens, deflect human rights issues in Iran with whatabout … Saudirabia, muricah, etc… Tankjes believe Hamas are fighters for the people, chant “from the river to the sea” while with the same breath saying it is all the wests own fault, Jews caused it all themselves… You know, the abusers credo… “Look what you made me do”.

Please don’t construe any of my above remarks as saying “west good, west blameless”.

But that is my opinion. Left wing is not a feature of what is going on on these instances. It is just noise between the vitriol.

My advice, block Hexbear, lemmy.ml and lemmygrad.ml on instance level. And if you come across one of their loons arguing the above point, block the user and move on. Nothing of value is gained by engaging these Trolls that spread misery across the internet.

  • First thing. If you stick your hand in the case, make sure the powercord is disconnected from the power supply, and then press the powerbutton. This discharges capacitors.

Don’t fret too mich, it’s like Lego, most stuff only first one way, and you don’t need much force to plug or remove stuff. If you need to use more force than you can apply with your finger, mostly you are missing a latch, hook or something else that is holding the thing in place… check again.

The machine has an onboard Videocard. So a good option is to remove the Videocard and test the system to see if it gives any sign of life without the graphics card.

Removing the graphics is a bit tricky as it usually has a little latch near the back of the connector it is in on the motherboard (check a quick YouTube video on removing a graphics card).

    Then try if it starts.

Then check all the connectors if they are seated properly. Especially all the small cables in the motherboard, they listen really carefully and must be on the correct headers.

    Check if it starts again.

Remove and re-seat the internal memory. I’d recommend quick YouTube video here too. It only fits one way.

    Check start again.

Then disconnect all other devices like the harddisk etc. just pull the cable on the drive side and leave it dangling… it’s only for testing.

Of none of this works, I’d recommend getting the guy that traded it help you out.

  • I think I responded to the tone and then you see premise that insinuated that colonial oppressors are just using their advantage to once again oppress the poor indigenous people of wherever in yet another way. Which I don’t agree with.

The concept of the fediverse seems to be that admins host instances and are pretty welcoming to new communities… So if someone from I dunno Togo would setup a lomé or togo-politics community it would be supported. Meaning anyone from anywhere can use the infra provided to setup and moderate their communities.

If anything the system allows people more advantaged with resources (time, money, know how) to provide an open space that can be used by everyone (within reason). Without being beholden to big tech and her hidden profit driven agenda.

I would be more concerned about accessibility and usability from the perspective of a lot of people. As many countries that are still developing have limited time and access. And I don’t know if the current state of the fediverse in it’s development is of much help.

I’llIncreasing the usability of the whole ecosystem with improved clients, moderation tools etc (the stuff that fediverse users are requesting, and those devs are working on) will help.

Once it is mature, more will come. And like with tech, financed by early adopters this seems similar.

In the mean time I see people from all over the globe post stuff about many things, including national interest stuff that would otherwise have passed me by.

And I don’t see stuff posted in languages I don’t comprehend because my profile filteres them out. I don’t know if there are any Swahili/Papiamento/Mandarin/Indonesian posts on lemmy, but Lemmy supports many languages so that might be a thing.

Lastly the whole us vs them (colonial powers, oppressors etc etc) might be applicable to a lot of the world, however, garnering support for a cause by making accusations against the fediverse and the current generation of hosts and users does not help. I would advise a more constructive stance in general. If you see people actually being as you describe call them out and tell it like it is by all means, but this was not the way to get the ball rolling.

I’d probably gone with something like: the fediverse is growing, how can we help it develop in a direction better serving people in developing countries. To get them out from under the power hold and monopolies of the big tech conglomerates. … or something.

In that case I would have stuck with an answer like above… we need to foster and nurture it’s growth so it becomes a good alternative and the people will come. Plus… you know… ask people from these countries or maybe even get devs from there involved using stuff like patreon. Getting feedback from people not using your product… and finding out why they don’t is hard.

But Lemmy for example already did a solid by making sure the platform supports a looooot or languages “out of the box”.

    Hope that’s better :).

For the record, I did not downvotes your reply as it deserves an actual response.
