I just absolutely love this comment, especially the dismissive bit at the end. Damn fine nerding my friend.

Honestly, this factoid is the closest thing to a real Total Perspective Vortex that I’ve ever felt.
Something I couldn’t help but notice today. I work from home most days at my current job, but I’m in the office this week. I’m the sort of person who always looks strangers in the eye and says hello, or just a smile and nod… today as I walked through the buildings to get lunch, not one single person acknowledged me. I almost always get at least a few responses or at least a smile. Today, nothing, every single person stared at the floor, or intentionally looked away when I made eye contact.
I get that there are folks uncomfortable with such interactions, and so I am not offended or upset if I don’t get a response, but despite being surrounded by people, I don’t remember feeling more alone.
Just wanted to share, seems relevant.

2·28 days agoI work with John, my role is as the replacement for another John. I’m trying to be open and fix the issues, but they just want John back, and the other John who’s here, is so territorial, even when I try to help, he just tries to undermine and fight me.
Fucking John.

3·29 days agoOh, I agree, nothing wrong with mint. I just like the fact that the LMDE version is Debian based and works with everything I’ve thrown it at.
Figure proof of they ever decide to switch away from Ubuntu and mainline LMDE. Probably won’t happen, but makes me feel better anyway :).

1·29 days agoSeconding LMDE. It’s Debian based rather than Ubuntu so no canonical to un-f. It’s my favorite distro. LMDE for desktop, vanilla Debian for servers.

3·29 days agoLMDE for future proofing and stability. Sort of a comedy option, but it’s my distro of choice. As easy as Mint, as stable as Debian. I just don’t trust Ubuntu and since it’s a Debian based distro, why not take one more step…
I’m in the same boat. I love that it makes self hosting easier for me. It does what I need and even gives me a small extra measure of security. I admit, I use it because I’m lazy, I could do it without Cloudflare and do for some services. So, I figure if it truly becomes urgent or intolerable I can drop it from the stack.

Thank you for this, it puts it in terms that make a lot of sense. This really helps explain a phenomenon I see so often. I know a few folks who are certainly not pro-trump, but are very anti-political. I’ve been told that I need to shut up, and things would be fine once the next election rolls around.
These folks might not like what’s happening, but they are fine conforming to it.
Maybe it’s a me problem, but I think it’s going to take a little more work than the bare minimum.
I wish more people would see it.
Different systems and we both have personal and professional lines we respect. I absolutely know I could but he also freely admits that among people our age it’s hilariously common and those who’ve gone untreated have their own inbuilt strategies.
He’s never short on advice, he’s a good dude.
I have a doctor who’s a friend. He specializes in, and has written papers about diagnosing adult ADHD. He pokes fun at me for my undiagnosed ADHD. Little comments like “gee, I wonder why…” while I’m telling stories.
He sees it. But I cannot get my fucking doctors to even talk to me about it. Whenever I ask about how to get a diagnosis, they just put me on another antidepressant.

Lol, I meant Reimann too since he’s German, but mostly because I’m an idiot.
