Puha talked about the 60FPS performance mode for Alan Wake 2 on Xbox Series X and why he’s super impressed by it (but still prefers playing at 30FPS)
Honestly, I don’t put much stake in any person’s statements if they say they prefer playing any game at 30fps.
Yes the Series S is less powerful, but developers keep complaining and it often sounds like they just don’t know how to optimize their content, or they are too rigid in deciding on what to compromise on. Nobody with a Series S expects it to play games that look like they do on Series X, just like a person with an Intel HD540 integrated graphics doesn’t expect the same graphical quality as someone with an RTX 4090.
He’s not saying he prefers 30 fps over 60 fps. He’s saying he prefers higher fidelity at 30 fps versus sacrificing quality to hit 60 fps. Given how people seem to enjoy such options in games I think he’s far from alone in that opinion.
There are game types that don’t benefit as much as others from having a higher refresh rate. Like a turn based strategy game or a more story based game where input delay doesn’t really matter. There is always the trope that a sexy screenshot is a lot easier to sell than a feeling of smooth responsive gameplay. I’m as frustrated as anyone about poorly optimized games but I think business motives explain a lot of it.
Series S causing a lot of problems they should just tell the game its a xbox one x (the old model) then move on
It’s literally the more popular model than the Series X in many regions. Xbox would be kneecapping their modern install base if they abandoned it.
