I personally have been using lineage os for some time now and I am curious how many others use F-droid and lineage os like I do

CalyxOS (MicroG) on the phone and crDroid (No MicroG or Gaaps) on the Tablet

my banking app works on the phone and Aurora Store helps to get Google Play apps if needed

Is mobile banking that popular of a thing? Couldn’t you just go to the bank? Or for that matter you could just use the website

If the app wouldn’t work I would probably test other means like it’s mobile website but if it works, why not? I’m using a direct bank though which doesn’t have branches anywhere in my country while ATMs typically only allow withdrawing from my account

Apps are vehicles for persistent trackers on your device, whereas with a mobile browser you have more freedom to install an ad/tracking blocker. Also, if no one uses the mobile website anymore, the bank will likely shut it down eventually (there are several “fintech” banks that don’t have a usable website already. In this way, apps may lock you into the Android/iOS duality.

I use LineageOS for years now, it works great but I should finally redo my install with Magisk and MicroG, some things that depend on root permissions and Google services would be kind of nice even tho I don’t really need them. Still, once you got used to a custom ROM phones without one seem fucking unusable, all that bloat and shit is just plain terrible!

I used LineageOS for years on my OnePlus 3, and once that stopped getting updates, I snagged a Pixel 5a and immediately put CalyxOS on it. Both have been great experiences.

I personally like lineage os because it is clean and minimal. Calyx os comes with way to many apps preinstalled

During setup, Calyx shows a list of the apps installed by default, and allows you to uncheck most of them. I personally didn’t feel like it was much bloat at all, but I did uncheck a good bit of the apps. If you went through the setup process with all default settings though, I can definitely see why you’d think that

+1 for Graphene. I’m running it on a Pixel 4a 5g and have had no issues to date. All my banking apps work, although some with the gaps compatibility layer in a different profile.

Lineage with MicroG, too. Been using it for years. I love buying phones for less than 100€ and use them until they are dead. OsmAnd, Syncthing, Keepass, NewPipe, DavX5, Neo- and Aurora Store are so good. Banking works fine after hiding Magisk but I can’t get Deutsche Bahn app to work, so I still buy my tickets offline. Not big of a deal. I really love my setup, it took some time to finetune, but it feels great to use a 95% FLOSS phone.

I used all sorts of ROMs but like op I’ve also gone lineage although I am considering a pure Linux phone, once the tech and foundation are more stable as my trust for google has gone down considerably with they’re brazen walled garden approach in recent years, safety-net (soon to be discontinued as hackers/modders have found work a rounds , and another implementation will soon be added if not already… I don’t keep up to date) and other such tactics are going to make the custom ROMs and rooting very difficult and I joined the team android for its openness but google are constantly implementing APIs and “features” and all of a sudden I’m unable to access the apps that had worked perfectly before. But anyway fuck google. Go team foss

I used to feel the same way but now I’ve realized how mature android is compared to Linux phones. We should focus on developing free software replacements for google services such as push notifications. There are already plenty of free software apps for android that it makes no sense to start from scratch

I agree that android is mature but when I think of what I use my phone and desktop for they both converge and my use case is well fitted to Linux over android, most of my android apps are lesser versions of my applications on my linux desktop but its also early days so I will continue with android till linux on mobile has matured

LineageOS with microg. Running now since over a year. The last upgrade from 18 to 20 was a bit of a hustle, as i had to upgrade my TWRP. So far i’m quite satisfied. The only thing that bugs me is, that i cannot use paid-apps from thr google store. I don’t always find an open source alternative fromF-Droidm.

I’m not sure if /e/ solves this problem i a better way. Was thinking about migrating to /e/. But, als LOS was running quite ok, i did not bother.

I’ve been doing this since the WinMo days. I recently went back to stock for my banking app with the latest 13 ROM, but I still have a 2016 Samsung tab a running great on the latest lineage, it saves so many older devices.

I’m currently on a niche Vanilla Custom ROM. My device is fairly new (came out in the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022, I bought it in the first half of 2022) and is quite niche (mid-range Xiaomi device). As such, it doesn’t have proper official support for many ROMs, but some people on a Telegram channel have gathered together to build Custom ROMs for this device. I have MicroG but don’t use it because I haven’t configured it properly. If LineageOS for MicroG ever becomes available for it, I would switch to that, so I have MicroG properly configured. The thing is, the people there don’t care about privacy, they are tinkerers only.
