Agora falando sério: era meio previsível que isso podia acontecer caso o governo deixasse tudo nas mãos de uma empresa gigantesca como a Microsoft; a empresa nunca vai assinar um contrato que garanta acesso gratuito a um recurso lucrativo que ela oferece, independente de quem é o cliente. Segundo o próprio artigo, a Microsoft faturou US$ 20 bilhões somente provendo serviços de segurança pra agências federais, como diabos o governo americano espera que ela ofereça os logs “na faixa” se o faturamento está bombando com essas parcerias?

Fora a péssima decisão de permitir que controlem 80% dos sistemas operacionais usados pelas agências. Quer dizer que se alguém achar uma vulnerabilidade critica no Windows, essa pessoa pode possivelmente comprometer comunicações sigilosas; ter acesso a arquivos ou informações de alto valor; ou em última instância, adquirir credenciais de alto nível e ser capaz de comprometer os outros 20% dos sistemas? Imagina o tamanho da merda que ia dar se isso acontecesse.

You mean it the other way, right? Because these companies you defend use the free labor of voluntary developers from the community, which spend hours and hours developing features, fixing bugs and what not, directly or indirectly. That’s how open source works.

When these companies change the project license to a closed source one, they’re basically saying a big “f*** you” to the community. Forking the latest open source version of the repository is nothing more than an effort to keep things the way they were.

Linux is FOSS, you can do whatever you want with it as long as you redistribute it without modifying the license. Android does that; every GNU/Linux distribution does that. That’s how it works.

Eu entendo onde você quer chegar com isso, mas acho que a instância da Meta deve ser tratada como qualquer outra. Se viemos todos pra cá buscando um ambiente mais amigável e sem os problemas das outras redes sociais, porque deveríamos federar com instâncias que querem replicar esse tipo de comportamento no fediverso?

Acho que vale perguntar duas coisas antes de assumir isso:

1 - Estamos divulgando o Lemmy/Mastodon para tornar ele conhecido e visto como alternativa válida?

2 - As pessoas que sabem da existência do fediverso e não migraram, realmente querem fugir dos algoritmos?

As pessoas que querem fugir do algoritmo irão buscar alternativa, assim como na última migração de usuários do Reddit pra cá; os que não se importam, vão continuar onde estão. Não podemos forçar as pessoas a concordar com a gente, só podemos apresentar a alternativa e torcer pra que venham conosco.

Desfederar do Threads apenas impede que eles vejam e interajam com comunidades, posts e usuários dessa instância. Mas nada impede que elas saiam do Threads e criem uma nova conta aqui ou em qualquer outra instância.

O melhor jeito de fazer as pessoas saírem de lá é explicar pra elas os problemas de usar redes sociais baseadas em algoritmos, e apresentar uma alternativa. Se não nos ouvirem ou não gostarem da alternativa dada, não há mais nada que possa ser feito.

No problem bro, most people here don’t know that because it lasted for about 4 days or so. Our first president liked our flag and national anthem from the imperial era, so he said it was bullshit to change them. Look man, I’m not american and I didn’t ask the question to create some debate about the ethics or whatsoever. I just wanted to know if there was a specific word for that.

First off, this wasn’t supposed to be an argument, just a question. My native language has a specific word for them (and some other languages have too) and I got curious if english itself had such a thing.

Maybe it’s because people say “America” and everybody instantly thinks of the USA, even though you’re just another country in the whole continent? For these people you are stealing the word “american” and changing its meaning. People from Asia have the word “asian”, people in Europe got “european”, people in Africa got “african”, but we? We don’t have a meaningful word anymore. And I’m not saying it’s your fault or even it’s a fault of your founding fathers. I’m just trying to tell you why these people get mad.

And yeah, I kinda get that “United States” is just a title, but in my native language (portuguese) we have a specific word for americans: “estadunidense”, which basically means “person born in the USA”

I was just wondering if there was a similar word in english that could be used specifically to these people, just like we have in portuguese. But again, thanks for your answer.

Also, fun fact: Brazil was actually called “United States of Brazil” for a short period, and our flag looked like a copy of yours, but in yellow and green. But then our king (thankfully) decided to go just by “Brazil”
