What Google password?

I don’t intend to browse RMS-style, but I have zero need of a Google account, nor of the major search engines directly.

I just add layers between myself and that particular company. I still can get their data, but without the creep factor.

It’s an imperfect solution, but I’m more comfortable with access by proxy than direct access.

Nothing wrong with disliking dating, it’s a screwy social ritual intended to use a short series of interactions to determine if this is a person you could trust and genuinely like enough to share everything - including tough mornings - and compromise with for the next fifty years.

Works for some folks. Doesn’t work for others. I’m happily married, took a couple false starts and youthful indiscretions to get here - as well as the magic of the internet and some long discussions about relationships/commitment/poly/nonstandard stuff.

Works for us, maybe not for most.

Curious how common the truly bad ones are. I’d assume quite uncommon between licensing, hospital hiring, chart data analysis at scale, etc., but…

Counting down the days to a relatively minor surgery I need. No real concerns, I’ve met the lead surgeon a few times, but plenty of unknown humans are part of the process too.

Company has low-key software trainers - a ton of information to convey, but they mostly embrace and gently corral the inevitable side convos you get in a Teams room of thirty very confused people.

Some of us were more vocal than others and a handful were less pleasant. During a brief silence, as a woman is about to ask a valid question, we ALL hear,

“Oh, there’s Jennifer, running her fat fucking mouth again! (Pause) (gasp from speaker)”

Guy wasn’t getting it anyway, but he didn’t last the rest of the morning.

There were 29 of us in that room, two years ago. Now there are six of us remaining. Mouthy guy above is the only one I know left involuntarily.

Think we just lost interest, I moved onto another job, that was that.

Sell them to someone who will test and resell them to the airline or medical industry… Manufacturing is a likely customer as well, plenty of legacy equipment there that’s airgapped and still running decades-old hw/sw.

Saw a post on mastodon in the last day or so that someone dug up a network card for the old 486 they had been working on getting back to life. Might be a use case there, as well as in aviation and medicine - fields that move exceptionally slowly and tend to have expensive equipment with long lifetimes.

Have an Al-Star and a Safari with two of my favorite inks close at hand nearly always. Can’t remember the last time I so much as thought about cleaning either, even the one with a shimmer in it. I just keep refilling them, and they just keep working.

Dirt cheap, given the quality, too, IMHO. They could charge twice what they do for the lower end of their products, and there would still be value there.

I’ve never heard them be interchangeable. Grew up in the NE US, PA, NY, FL, and MA.

I’ve spent most of the last twenty years in the Midwest, and can’t think of a single example.

The outlier would be very, very careful instructions - likely written - organized in an if/then fashion which is a totally different use case:

• Where the coffee machine is empty and the old filter abd grounds have been removed…
• Where the coffee machine is empty but the used filter and grounds are still present… (add step to deal with that case)
• Where the moron before you forgot to turn off the burner after emptying the carafe…

“Since” wouldn’t fit, at least without changing the instructions after the ellipsis.

And of course the classic example: “since you are up, get me a beer…” also doesn’t really work. (Apologies to some long irrelevant redneck comedian for ripping that off to make a point).

I’m trying in my head to make it fit in both casual and formal conversation, and it just won’t as far as I can tell.

Dead on, and applicable to nearly everyone.

• If you need medical care, get fucking medical care. Seriously. It will get worse if you ignore it, whatever “it” happens to be.
• Following the above, have at least one trusted advocate (partner, family member, friend, doesn’t matter) who can explain any chronic issues, typical medications, etc., and who can and will advocate on your behalf with medical professionals in e.g., a hospital setting as and when necessary.

I walked away from reddit after Alien Blue had to get pulled, and haven’t looked back.

There are a few niche areas Lemmy hasn’t had a chance to build a community yet - AskHistorians comes to mind - that I miss, but time will hopefully solve that.

Particularly since most Lemmy instances have (IIRC) built-in image hosting (unless disabled), and there are a wide variety of alternatives as well.

Not too many years after that nightmare, I was perfectly capable of enjoying thru-hiking, carrrying exactly same weight anyone else would have been, moving at same speed on rough terrain, etc. Still couldn’t run a mile - or much shorter distances - in my wildest dreams. Didn’t matter, I was in exactly the shape I wanted to be in, for the things I cared about.

Can’t do it anymore, my body widely conspired against me in various ways, but glad I was capable of it and have the memories. If I had been able to run a mile, but not hike any distance with weight, I’d be alot less happy about what I had achieved at that point.

Pharm tech licensing varies wiiiiidely across the states. Some require natl very, some require basically on job training IIRC.

RPh not so much, but tech also has responsibility not to kill you with a misfill and more eyes are always good for preventing deaths.

The shit wages they pay in relation to being responsible in part for safety and accuracy (in retail) is a big part of why most retail is dangerously understaffed.

Same for insurance agents and real estate agents in many (most?) of US. HS, a couple weeks of “teaching to the test,” and a test is all it takes. Rote memorisation. - lots of those younger folks in insurance couldn’t define what they may/may not say/promise, or who is an “Insured” under a given policy.

No, sed, NOT in place. Not the first time. Show me what you want to do based on the instructions I gave you, and then we’ll talk about letting you play with the real data.

Seems like it would be a nightmare to purify. Perhaps useful for agricultural applications, but for drinking and household use…. Most water supplies don’t have e.g., human bodies floating in them.

Not a scientist, happy to be proven wrong here, but that’s my gut.
