Part of my job is to to scare finance into saying “yes”. Recent news headlines over the last two years have made my job a lot easier.

Technology@lemmy.world•I signed up for Trump Mobile two weeks ago and I still don’t have my SIMEnglish
151·22 hours agoSuch a grift but I will give it to them, charging $47.45 is pretty clever marketing.
…and that shaggy MF wants $40,000,000 for next years hardware refresh and 8yr support licensing.
Source: I am that shaggy MF.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•KDE Plasma Bigscreen is the Ideal, XMB-like Environment for GNU/Linux Gaming Devices Connected to your TVEnglish
29·3 days agoI was trying to figure out if they still made Plasma TVs. I’m an idiot.
Yeah. Their man-o-sphere morning routine starts at 3am. Gotta get your 8 hours in.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How has there not yet been a leak of the Epstein files? Surely there is someone with access to them that could have been subject to worldwide pressure to let something out.
12·7 days agoWith the names that have already been released, the ringleader dead under mysterious circumstances, and lack of whistleblower protections… I’m assuming no one is stupid enough to leak/hack the files when there are legal paths to release the information (ie FOIA). Groups you cited like Anonymous act when no one else can or will.
I had an ex that asked me to show her how to cook and then proceeded to have a complete mental breakdown while screaming about how judgy I was being.
Turns out she lived off of turkey on flatbread, plain, every.single.night. We didn’t make it more than a month. My (now) wife went from only being able to bake, to a full on Sous Chef. Most nights I don’t have to say a word, we’re just on a mission to get dinner for 5 ready.
One of my first jobs was in a call center with a scripted greeting using an assertive voice because the customers always tried to dunk on us. My friends and family would laugh so hard when I answered my personal phone with the script/voice.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone here have an opinion on Dr. John Delony and his show? Same question can be asked for his boss Dave Ramsey.
61·9 days agoI am so conflicted on Ramsey. I want to hate him so much but I’m now debt free, have a great credit score, and lived a normal life while fixing it thanks to that smug asshoke.
The envelope on my fridge also saved my marriage. My wife would worry about me buying a used dvd, the nice cheese, or anything I wanted over $10 really (we were really poor). Arguments and resentment ensued. Given my budget, Dave said to pay yourself out of your own paycheck, $10-20 every two weeks and I could only spend that for fun shit. It had to be in cash and if possible, the envelope had to be somewhere where I could see it (magnet to the fridge). For some reason, that changed my wife’s whole point of view and she was excited for me to spend my “fun-velope”. Good stuff.
I don’t know the other dude.
We now all live in a recursive loop.

Lord of the memes@midwest.social•Deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised.English
1·10 days agoNo. I don’t usually live by absolutes.
Woah, core memory unlocked! As kids, we put DSL on business card shaped DVDRWs and kept them in our wallets. We could take them to the library and boot into DSL, bypassing the software security.
At the time, libraries had outrageously fast internet compared to home. I would plug in my ORB drive and write as much Napster to the tape drive as I could (2.2GB @ 5-8MB/second). I’m sure everyone there had the worst connections because of me.
Great memory for me, thanks! 🙏

51·11 days agoFair point. If you’re already spending $555 to watch a movie, what’s another $150 for all of it?
I guess my thought was that if my time is worth money, would it be worth my extra time/money to watch the extra bits over say, attending to other aspects of my life? Does the extra footage really enhance the overall viewing pleasure? If I recall one of the scenes was a tree getting high with Gandalf? I don’t remember, it’s why I’m asking.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did y'all ever felt curious about your parent's past? If your relationship with parents isn't close, how does one get their parent's story without making the interaction awkward?
10·11 days agoNo need to apologize at all! I like to use my story to help others realize they can flee a toxic relationship anytime they want and shouldn’t feel beholden to anyone including those who “brought you into this world”. God I hate that line so much, especially when it’s followed by “…and I can take you out of it too.”
I hope you find what you’re looking for. Best of luck, friend.

103·11 days agoLet’s say you had to pay the TV $1/minute to watch LOTR. Is the extended cut worth $30-$50 more per movie than the theatrical cut?
I wouldn’t pay the extra but I’m not the biggest fan. It’s been years so I don’t recall all the things the extended cut adds. Just curious what fans would say in this economy.

10·11 days agoMy father is a bi-polar narcissist and my mother is a bizarre kind of broken because of it. I fled home at 16 yo and looked back a few times, though I wish I didn’t. The few time I had a chance to ask questions about their past, the stories always changed.
It all broke down during the pandemic when they went full blown rightwing conspiracy theorists and science deniers trying to guilt me into letting them near my (then) newborn. At one point one of their “FBI friends” told them COVID was a hoax. We don’t have FBI friends.
With all that said… fuck em. My curiosity of the past doesn’t exceed how much it distresses me to be around them. My chosen family and I are looking towards the future.
In your case I would just stick to the facts and get medical history. That’s the one thing I wish I got before calling it quits.

I miss The Wonderful World of Disney anthology series that played on a Sunday evening. I want to see one with Wojtek, Sgt. Reckless, and Cher Ami. That would make me so happy.
