  • but it’s not a great triumph of the left wing. It’s a bare minimum.

You’re shifting goalposts. You said “Yeah. I respect the Republicans for actually getting shit done, as evil as their goals are.” and then claimed democrats don’t get anything done.

Also here are some things the Democrats did; and I say this as a Canadian:

    • Signing the 19th Amendment into law (for non Americans, this gave women the ability to vote)

    • Social Security

    • Medicaid

    • National Industrial Recovery Act (8 hour work day, min wage, right to collective bargaining, paid overtime)

    • Unemployment Benefits

    • Civil Rights Act

    • Voting Rights Act

    • Fair Labor Standards Act (this was the end of Child Labour)

    • F.E.M.A.

    • Literally creating the Departments of Education, and Energy

    • Family and Medical Leave Act

    • National Voter Registration Act

And those are just the larger ones I thought of offhand, I’m sure there are more. Yet I’m also pretty sure most americans would agree that things like women voting, social security, medicaid, workers rights, civil rights, voting rights, ending child labour, etc, are pretty important things that were passed into law.

I guess it’s true what they say, being good is something anyone can do, but being evil requires actually being smart and driven.

Which sociopath told you this? I’ve never heard that saying in my entire life.

  • You also have to keep in mind that both the police and military are “outsiders” to capitalists. They are often poor, and can side with the public. Capitalists rely on total obedience of the military and police, if that breaks, they’re done.

The whole “seizing guns” thing is a red herring. One general strike and no amount of guns will matter, capitalists need constant, increasing wealth. To not just lower their money but stop incoming money is death to them. Imagine every port, airport, train station, service industry business, etc, all with no workers.

They can call all the cops and infantry they want, those same people will constantly be asked to kill friends and family. The ones willing to do so will decrease in number until the inevitable toppling of the governing body.

A (former) leader of Japan was killed with a makeshift weapon. Imagine CEOs trying to dine out when any person in the kitchen staff could poison them.

  • I wasn’t (as) worried until Trump won. Now we’re going to have Trump sycophants running our federal government.

Here is a ‘great’ report on Canadian preferences for the States. It highlights fun facts like:

Q: An American Presidential Election will be held in November. Which candidate would you most like to see win?

Majorities of both men and women in Canada prefer Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. However, the preference for Harris is somewhat stronger among women (68%) than among men (51%). While only a minority of men prefer Trump, they are 12 percentage points more likely to do so than are women (27%, compared to 15%). Since 2020, Trump’s appeal has increased by seven percentage points among men (from 20% to 27%) and by five points among women (from 10% to 15%).

And then we get to this:

FIGURE 5 U.S. presidential election: preferred candidate, by federal vote intention (2024)

And if you were curious if it was just a Con thing, as usual no, it’s men again:

I’m extremely worried for my queer and female friends and loved ones. My queer child is already getting more and more aggressive threats from both people they know and don’t know. Two weeks ago it was threatening to attack them after school. Last week was a bottle thrown at them with a ‘vote Trump, fag!’ shout.

I won’t stand by that, so I’m going to dress and act as out as I ever have, so they come for me instead. Come at me, Cons, I’m not afraid.

And they’ll just downvote anything you say, because you’re the bad guy now, regardless of what you’re talking about.

I’m just curious what it must be like to be so fragile. It’s like any time they aren’t being directly supported they fall apart and lash out at everyone around them. The hardest part is watching women calmly wait out the guys’ tantrum, then try to carefully explain to him (and in a way that makes him Feel Like A Man still, ever holding his hand emotionally) what is happening and they will still freak out.

    It really is just embarrassing.

There was a wave of, likely from reddit, ‘mens rights’ users who came over and this happens all of the time now. Any time a woman mentions issues with a man, it’s “YEAH BUT WHAT ABOUT” as if the things can’t both exist.

I mean look what they’re upvoting: ‘I saw a feminist say she doesn’t care about guys, I super swear guys!’

It’s just fucking embarrassing how childish they are. Not even childish, because children can learn empathy. It’s as if they quite literally have zero empathy, and can only engage in sympathy with someone who is somehow similar to them. Like should I just post this comic here, the one we all read, as a reply to these people?

Irony is completely lost upon them.
