  • Honestly, I think is the whole ”First Post” mindset.

When you post a reply on Mastodon, it is more intimate, the only people who see it are the original tooter and anyone who actively seeks more commentary. It is a dialogue between two people, or multiple dialogues between one person and many others.

Lemmy is more like a forum, where everyone can see all comments, right underneath the original post. It is more like an open-table discussion.

It is not that Lemmy is more social, it is just less personal.

  • Same as. Certain family members expect everyone to be on Facebook and also drink all of Zucks Kool-Aid.

I just don’t go to those family events, unless I’m personally invited. If an event only exists of Facebook, it does not exist to me.

I have 2FA apps on my phone for work. I also have the horrendous HR app for applying for Annual Leave. If they insist that I need more work-related apps on my personal phone, I will be getting a second phone and using that exclusively for work. It will be turned off when I walk out the door at the end of the day and kept in my office drawer.

I think you a both right. Historically, Semites referred to a large cultural group.

Over time, it has become a nonsense word because those cultural groups have become so dilute and diverse that you can’t point at someone and say they are part of that group.

More recently, the label has become misappropriated by some sort of whacky religious nutbaggery so they can oppress other people.

  • It is absolutely atrocious to use and constantly tries to ram Algorithmic crap down your through. The thing is, most normies are there and for every person who is Internet savvy enough to see the benefit of Mastodon and Lemmy (and Pixelfed, etc) there are a dozen normies who don’t and can’t be bothered finding out.

I would not say that Facebook is popular, but I will say that it is common. It is literally the Lowest Common Denominator for port of social interaction on the Internet.
