I don’t think any of the directors you mentioned would push back against studio interference though. There are directors who will trade control for a paycheck and there are ones who won’t. The ones who won’t often make more interesting movies.

That’s kind of what I’m saying. Any director working for them has to be OK with the studio taking their movie and fucking around with it, they don’t get to kick up a fuss.

That automatically excludes a whole bunch of really talented directors who actually might make something worth watching if the studio wasn’t so meddlesome.

One of the problems Disney has is that they want total control over their movies so they only hire directors who will churn out product and not push back.

Monsters remain scary as long as the audience doesn’t know much about them because the imagination is always scarier than the reality. Giving them a backstory was a dumb move, not helped by the writing being absolutely fucking abysmal, but that’s always been Ridley Scott’s achilles heel. Give him a great script and he’s one of the best directors around.

Yes. Get a working camera feed and go from there. For that, tackle the hardware side first - Pi, camera, power/ethernet, case, storage for the OS. Then install the OS and the camera software and test it. Mine are all indoors so you’ll have to see what kind of cases are weatherproof if you’re using it outside.

Exactly. VLC will be fine if you only want to view one camera. If you want to add more, do recording/motion detection, view them in a browser, etc. then MotionEye on a server works but there are other options. I know that the Synology NAS’ DSM OS has its own solution for managing all that stuff.

There are plenty of guides but I just took it step by step. The links I provided have instructions for each bit of software needed. You’ll need to be able to do things like flash the OS to a SD or USB drive and then be able to ssh into the Pi to install the camera software. Start here: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/

There’s no programming skill needed but you should be comfortable with using the terminal, or at least be willing to learn. You don’t need to install a OS with a desktop, everything is done via the terminal.

After that’s done you can use VLC to view the feed and check it’s working before installing motioneye on a server. You just get the IP address of the camera and give the URL to VLC like this: rtsp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8554/h264

If you look at the whole thing in one go, it’s overwhelming, but if you break it into chunks it’s not too bad and it’s a good learning opportunity, if that’s your thing.

It’s not too difficult, I figured it out and I eat crayons.

I use a Pi, a camera module like this https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-high-quality-camera/ and a suitable lens. You can get cheaper camera modules, IR modules, etc.

My cameras are all ceiling mounted so having one cable for data and power made sense for me.

You’ll also need a case, my solution was to buy a metal Pi case and mount the module onto that, feeding the ribbon cable back into the case.

It’s not just the US, it’s been happening for years in other countries like the UK as well.

Traditionally there has been one party that is for working people and another for capital and the owner class.

The right has been getting further and further into far right authoritarianism. That posed a problem for the Dems going back to the Clinton Presidency: do they stick with being the party of working people or do they try to have their cake and eat it by tacking to the center and assuming that the working class will continue to vote for them no matter what?

It largely worked for a time and gave Obama two terms but ever since then they have been susceptible to criticism that they’re out of touch, elitists, entitled, and that they look down their nose at working people whilst still assuming that they will get their vote, which opened the door to Republicans.

You can’t serve two masters for very long, you can’t be the party of working people while being run by upper middle class graduates. You can’t claim to care about the people with the least while cozying up to CEOs and megadonors. Sooner or later it all falls apart, as it did with Hillary Clinton’s run, where working people disliked her elitism and she didn’t have enough support from elsewhere to make up the shortfall. That should’ve been a warning. Instead they doubled down.

The problem in the US is that there are only two viable parties. The Dems won’t go back to being the party of working people because they wouldn’t know how to do that even if they wanted to. What happens when the Trump Presidency turns out to be a disaster?
