  • It’s a carbon copy for archival. That shit might show up when you’re searching your inbox, so it still makes sense. I automatically shove all mails where I’m in Cc into a separate folder and skim through it once a week maybe. If you want me to do something, then please address me directly. If you’re not capable of that, then you should perhaps look for a different job.

  • I just recently went back to a dedicated mp3/flac player. I wanted to go back to actually thinking about the music I hear and discover music myself without an algorithm telling me what to do. Even my rather cheap Shure se215, which are meant to be IEMs for musicians rather than for listening to music, sound leagues better than the Sony wf-1000xm5 I have. And they’re even better at isolating noise, without ANC. Plus no Bluetooth bullshit. Fuck that noise.

I’m sick of the way tech is going. It’s also the reason I’ve started building a home server.

  • Alphabet is known to mess around with the algorithms so you’ll always get disgusting Nazi shit in your suggestions sooner or later. Also, a lot of people can’t back out of doom-scrolling, because of bad impulse control (people with ADHD for example). And even if there’s something informative in there. It will always lack a lot of information. It’s like merely reading the headline of an article and then going into the comments, claiming you know everything about the topic (happens on Lemmy a lot).

It’s nice that you seem to have a grip on these shorts, but it’s even greater that you can use certain tools to eradicate them. On my mobile phone I use YouTube revanced and on Firefox/waterfox I use Tweaks for YouTube. With the latter you can also change the thumbnail size and grid the way you want so you don’t have to cope with the ridiculously large thumbnails.

  • That’s a weird take… The comic is speaking to many people who suffer the same fate. I love reading books but the distractions at home prevent me from doing so. Many people don’t even realize this until they finally get to read a book while on vacation for example. This comic is a reminder to think about this a bit more. I enjoyed the comic. Why are you gatekeeping comics?

  • It doesn’t work like that if you’re neurodivergent. I love reading, but it takes longer to get into a book. Other media are better at playing with the dopamine. But when I’m on vacation and there is no computer or tv around, then I can finally take the time to get into a book and it’s the most fantastic thing ever.

  • The tech is flawed? Bicycles are the most efficient mode of transportation bar none. E-Bikes just have a very efficient motor slapped onto them. It’s not the tech. I also don’t believe it’s the climate because I know for a fact that more and more people are commuting by bike in the Philippines. If they can do it in 37 °C heat at 99% humidity and maximum exhaust fumes, then so can you.

That said, infrastructure is the biggest flaw. And that’s something that can be changed within a couple of years, as long as people are willing to do so. The Netherlands were a car-brain shit hole in the 70s, and they made a 180 and live in fucking paradise.

Of course there are many things that absolutely require a car, but groceries isn’t one of those, unless you live in the soulless suburban sprawl that you see so often in the USA.

  • Ok? I bought my E-Bike 8 years ago for 1500€ and use two roller bags and grab a bit of groceries on my way back from work. It’s a 10km commute one way, so a total of 20km. It takes me a grand total of 26 minutes to get to work. The car usually takes longer due to traffic.

I mean, it’s nice having a PHEV for bigger tasks but we (family of 3) only have one car. We do plenty with our E-Bikes.

Edit: and yes, I use the bike in winter, during rain and snow and I don’t give a shit. I fortunately also don’t live in a total shit hole, which was a choice I actively made.
