I like the way Pop!_OS looks. Not gonna pretend it’s the best. But as far as default UIs, it clicked with the most. Default gnome seemed too spartan and all of the Windows-like DEs remind me too much of Windows. Which I don’t like. If that makes sense.

Same. I love that mail, calendar, contacts, notes, and files are all in one snappy app. I left proton because their android app was soooooo slow on android.
I have spent so much time professionally in Windows over the years that when I decided to switch it had to look nothing like it. So Mint is out. Kde as a whole really. Vanilla gnome looks kinda sterile to me. So I ended up with Pop!_OS and have been happy so far.
Do you have a Gigabyte motherboard in your PC? I’m battling the same with Pop!_OS that is related to Gigabyte mobos of a certain model. There is a fix, but I havent been able to get it to work and haven’t had time to find out why.
Specifically the B550 model(s).

Gaming@beehaw.org•Adult gamers of Lemmy how do you find time to game without being exhausted of the screen?
1·8 months agoI work from home, so the last thing I want to do on my leisure time is sit at the same desk I’ve sat at for the last 8 hrs. So I lounge on the couch and play through my huge steam deck library. It is not a cheap device, to be sure. But I felt it was absolutely worth it for me.

3·8 months agoPortables are the best for this, imo. Steam Deck or a used 3DS are my choices. The latter is easy to mod and play all sorts of games including the gigantic DS/3DS library.
I find both systems clutch for the suspend function. Lets you pick right back up where you were. I will say the 3ds is much better at this with clamshell design that suspends on closing the lid and it’s battery life in suspend is fantastic!
I also find stress relief games. Mindless 3rd person action games for me. Mad Max was great because I could drive around picking fights or crashing stuff. The Batman Arkham games and the Shadow of Mordor games are other great examples for me. I have not found any relaxing “cozy” games that work for me. Nothing has really grabbed my attention enough to stick with.
Pretty big caveat to that though. Joplin names the individual text files some huge hexadecimal value, unlike Obsidian (and maybe Loseq). And it appends some meta data in the file itself.
I personally felt this was unacceptable for my use case. And if Logseq’s android app wasn’t so bad, is be using it instead of Obsidian.
Was going to say the same. Obsidian has very little proprietary stuff in it, other than maybe some plugins users may elect to use. Other than that, it’s just folders full of markdown files.

13·1 year agoPop!_OS is neat. I’ve been running it on my desktop and laptop for over a year now. I like that it doesn’t look like Windows and has enough difference to it to not be a macOS clone either. Plus I think System76 is doing some great things with hardware design.
It’s the only distro I’ve liked for the last 2 years.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Notesnook is down - potential FOSS alternatives?
4·1 year agoHave to agree with this. I’d love to use it and support what they’re doing. But the mobile client is bad. I also hate that the note files, stored in markdown format, are modified. The file names are not human readable and the contents are appended with metadata.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•What is your favourite FOSS notes application?
2·1 year agoI’ve tried them all. I use Quillpad for Google Keep replacement (shopping/packing lists, etc) but have been using and loving Obsidian. I know it’s closed source, but the hierarchy of simple text files is fantastic and I haven’t found a FOSS alternative I like as much.

1·1 year agoI hope there’s a deal exploit like buying 3 years of GP for $3-4/mo by using a VPN like I did about a year ago. If not, I won’t be subscribing and will likely get rid of my series X. I’ve been very disappointed in it anyway. Oh well, still have the original and the 360…

Yep, same here. Works well.
