One are paid to do the job …
I suggest you better stay then with Microsoft or Apple. Suits more your ideology.
But you‘re an Arch derivative user
Wrong, but keep guessing.
Suffice it to say that Ubuntu / RedHat / etc …
Oh, I see, you like being hold by your hands 😂🤣
With a dedicated security team
Where is the difference between „dedicated“ and „commitment paired with skills“???
Being a „rolling release“ has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Sure, Debian and alike are up-to-date as are ArchLinux or Void. Oh, boy!

5·5 days agoIt is not his fault. He raised it several times and proposed alternatives, but the flock continued to choose the same butcher.
Any friends in other countries, who may bring you the laptop?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
1·5 days agoThis is also a reason why some are against RedHat distributions (eg Fedora) or products (systemd, pulse audio). If you don’t like to support the company and have an alternative, take the alternative.
Well, Void is not that large, but they quickly patch security issues, especially due to being a rolling release. OpenBSD, not Linux or rolling release though, is not a huge OS either, but they are patching - if there is a security issue - quickly. Similarly Slackware - if we want to come back again to a Linux distro.
In other words: No, the size of its dev team does not necessarily mean that they are behind with patching security issues. it depends on the commitment and skills of devs, and the community.
Have you considered other sellers? Slimbook? System76? Framework? Etc.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
2·5 days agoTrue. And although some studies reported a positive effect on companies, I have my doubts based on what I have seen with my eyes in my city. A study issues further concerns:

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
2·7 days agoJust to give some relevant information: Git, the major program behind GitHub, has been developed by Linus Torvals. The license allowed the free use of git until today. Some people took git and built a web application around - GitHub was born. Sure they added some features, but the engine was git! In 2018 these “creators” of GitHub sold their product to Microsoft. They gave a s**t on the community and what may happen afterwards.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
2·7 days agoYour local or regional provider can and will send you books in the same time - perhaps not in 24h, but this may be rarely the case that somebody is in a such dearly need of a book.
I am buying books from my local provider, though more expensive, but I want people to have jobs - considering how many bookstores closed due to Amazon - and the possibility to go there, have a book in my hand and read it a bit.

1·8 days agoAs long as Windows remains the most used OS it remains the OS with the highest attack surface. Personally, I am fine with it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•The security situation with the Arch Linux AUR got a lot worse
12·11 days agoOr all the Arch users, who finish their comments with the iconic „oh, I use Arch btw”. Like a medal. Loool!
The silence from some of the systemd fan club is deafening. For years, anyone criticizing systemd’s expansion was treated as a luddite. Suggest an alternative init system and you would get lectures about how systemd had already won and everyone else should just accept it. Meanwhile, people were showing up in Void Linux communities asking why Void refused to “modernize” by adopting systemd, as if distributions couldn’t possibly make different design choices.
Now when age verification was introduced in systemd without discussion, a lot of those voices seem remarkably quiet. Apparently the concerns were only stupid when other people raised them. Bigots.

Great cartoon and so much what is sometimes going on in the job world. In my case:
Chef: You cannot work alone on problems. If you have one, don’t wait, but approach us.
Chef after evaluation of work: You showed little autonomy (without mentioning that it has to do with approaching them when problems).
The language of parentheses is raising its „hand“.

Perhaps this one:
Proton Mail -> Tuta Mail
Why? I would be careful with Proton Mail b/c it presumably advocates the Swiss surveillance and security law, which allows to keep information for a longer period of time.
BTW, you can add:
GitHub -> Codeberg (or Forgejo)
